Warning, It is UGLY!
Not that I am fan of all-in-one solutions, I even think that new iMac is pretty ugly but this tops everything!

That is hideous. You would think that since Apple has had an elegant all-in-one-dispay-iMac out since October of 2004 that Sony would be able to "borrow" some design and come up with something that is at least bearable to look at.

Oh my, I really would expect much more from Sony. Their VAIO designs are normally really nice. WTF, did they get some intern monkey to design this thing?

a 20" screen for 1500 dollars that's integrated into the computer in such a horrible way. no thanks. The thing looks like a TV at a bad motel with the VCR attached to it.
I'm thinking people who have 1500 bucks to spend will go a different route. I really don't see this selling very well.

 What the heck was that.
The sony model looks like a cross between a sewing machine and a polaroid camera ... and then they put an LCD on top.

£1500 no less. That's $2640.

BlessNope, that's their latest offering... although, I must say that the Japanese version (http://www.vaio.sony.co.jp/Products/VA2/gallery.html) looks a bit nicer.

It does look a lot better when you look at it from the front. It's still not a piece of beauty, but at least it doesn't give new meanings to the word ugly from that angle.

Its the same thing.;)Maybe it's just the pictures are better. ;)
But the Japanese one I linked to is a VA-2, while the one posted here is a VA-1. There must be SOME difference between them.

I just don't get it...
If Apple can make an all-in-one less than 2 inches thick, then any company could, so why do they come out with things like these that a just painful to look at?

Apparently this _is_ a viao computer. So ugly.
Looks like Dell's all-in-one is aerodynamic:

Seriously... WTF?
I'm sure there are good designers at sony. Their MP3 players, while being behind the times, are decent looking. Their LCD TVs are nice looking. Their laptops are snazzy.
That is easily the worst looking computer from a non-Dell company I've ever seen. Considering it comes 1 1/2 year after the Rev. A iMac G5, that's pretty sad.

Yeah, you'd think they could have came up with a better design. The Vaio laptops are really nice looking, IMO.

Nobody is trying to copy Apple designs. There are similarities sometimes, that's all. In this case, there are no similarities between it and anything Apple would design.
It reminds me of this computer from Dell;

I think the Dell with the backpack is worse. :o
Wait... it's not April 1st already is it?
Is this for real? It's hideous. http://messenger.msn.com/MMM2005-10-25_17.33/Resource/emoticons/52_52.gif What happened to Sony's nice clean designs? The Vaios used to be really nice machines, well, the laptops at least...

Didn't Apple hire some of the Vaio engineers last year? Is this the result? ;)

I thought all the good VAIO engineers were at Apple..... Well let's just hope if that was true Apple got the better bunch of VAIO industrial designers.
That is one seriously UGLY machine, maybe for an 80's PC it might have been pretty.

FUGLY! I always had the impressionj that a media center PC would not utilize a monitor - what is the point? Hook it up to the existing video device and moce on...

I have a colleague who was at a Sony UK open day and mentioned their all-in-one TV/Media PC as being one of the highlights. They said it looked pretty slick in person - although I haven't been able to show her these pics to see if it is this one.
Since she's a Mac user herself, she's not generally overly impressed with Media PCs, it will be interesting to try to gauge her reaction to this pic when I see her next

IMHO, even Apple is tarnishing its impresive record with the new iMacs (G5/Intel) and even PowerMacs G5. They are not ugly but not something I would consider 'cool'. iMacs have too much space bellow the screen and PowerMacs just look plain industrial.

I kind of like the Dell backpack. It looks...upgradeable. It's like you could pull out the computer and pop in a replacement. Of course you could build something like that for less...
The Sony isn't that bad. It looks like one of those almost skinny CRTs with a Mac-Mini-in-a-box underneath it. I think it is fine if they want to build it, but I would call them liars if they think that is an all in one.

My thought too- but it went more like this-
"Why would they do that? Maybe they were drinking,, er something else..I guess you can upgrade it. "
But how is this different than simply placing a tower behind a flat screen? very gimicky. I like the imac - and it was executed far better than the Sony or Dell.

Umm, don't all computers take in air and expel it out the back? Good job Dell. Way to go. Wow your customers with your amazing new "cooling technology" that use secret rotational air volume shifters called "fans" to cool your computers. Meanwhile Apple has been performing some pretty amazing cooling tricks for years. (cube, anyone?)

I saw an ad for this in a magazine today (old Fortune magazine) and it actually said "Can you find the PC?" and then had an arrow pointing it out. Good thing they had that arrow or I wouldn't have been able to see that tower sitting behind the monitor. It also claimed to be the world's first PC with "no footprint", I had no idea it floated in midair.

Meanwhile Apple has been performing some pretty amazing cooling tricks for years. (cube, anyone?)Erm, let's not get started on the Cube. I just got my used Cube yesterday and I've already learned the hard way that it is a VERY temperamental beast when it comes to overheating... the same problem that the Xbox 360 has with its power unit overheating ALSO affects the Cube. Mine kept shutting down randomly until I moved the power supply to a location with better air circulation.

I found this image via google.
Can You Find The PC? (http://idealog.typepad.com/.shared/image.html?/photos/uncategorized/findpc.jpg)
The image isn't great, but you can read most of it. The arrow is cut off, but you can see it starts to the left of the headline word "Can..." and then you can see it again at the bottom right pointing to the behemoth.
This ad is just amazing. I might scan this ad anyway just so I can have it on file and get a good laugh when I've had a bad day. ;)
