i'm not sure whether to post this under software or hardware as i don't know for sure what's causing the problem:
over the last few weeks i've been busy ripping all of my futurama dvds onto my powerbook in handbrake so as to be able to put them on my ipod. for the most part, this has worked out quite well. that said, what i would generally do is make a queue and leave the computer ripping for a couple of hours. recently, however, i've come back to my powerbook only to find it stuck on the grey-screen-of-death (not sure what else to call it, but it's the one with the sort of dialogue box in the center of the screen with a picture of the power button that says you need to restart on account of an 'error' or something). i began to notice though that this most often occured when i'd left the computer running on my bed (although i have experienced it on hard surfaces as well). my question pertains to potential overheating of the powerbook. when i've found the machine frozen, the underside has never seemed overwhelmingly hot, but it certainly has been warmer than normal. either way. is it possible that this is a software glitch, or can 'overheating' cause the powerbook to lock-up like that?
