iPod Smart playlist flashing by on 5G iPod

I'm not sure if this is some weird prection on the original CDs, but I've ripped a couple of CDs I bought ladst week to MP3 - they play OK on my G5 but on the iPod it says 'playing track1, playing track 2 . .' etc without laying them it just runs through the list of tracks and then stops.

I tried re-doing a couple of CDs and they were OK but a couple more refuse to work on my 60gig 5g iPod.
 
All of them are brand new and hadn't even been played once!! And as I said they play fine in iTunes on my G5 (and on my iBook)
