Where's the option for "I think it's a big mistake but would still buy one, maybe two"?

:)

I thought we already had a poll on this subject..... Otherwise, no, I would think it's a mistake....besides, didn't Steve Jobs already say no to it

No I don't thinks so. But give me a 12" Powerbook with a flip over screen that is touch sensitive and I will definitely buy. Imagine surfing the net with nothing but a screen on your lap and a stylis on a 12" screen. Next thing it needs to do is be able to rotate the image on the screen 90º left or right so you have a full page screen.

I can see the value of Tablet computer for workers who attends lots of meeting and can't touch type :) Even if you can touch type (and I can) tablet computer will still be useful for drawing diagram/sketches. So it depends on who you are and what your needs are, I think.

What I need is NOT an iTablet, but rather a G3 powered subnotebook with a 10" screen, VGA out, Airport, Bluetooth and Firewire and less than 2 pounds weight ...

The current *books are still too heavy and have too much hardware inside. For on-the-move people something like the Panasonic CF-R1 or the Sony Vaio SRX77 would be great !!

I'd rather Apple spend their time getting processor--and other subsystem--speeds up. Let's have true DDR-RAM.

Very succintly put, Apple got into trouble before offering too many products.

I like the idea of an itablet. I like the idea of having the ability to write on your laptop screen so you don't have to annoy people by making too much noise when you type. (I type pretty darn fast so I do tend to make noise even when I'm attempting some sort of stealth quiet mode in a meeting. Egads! It's embarassing to see other people's stares when you simply want to jot an idea down. It's like listening to a mouse with a mini machine-gun sometimes... or even a very small person tap dancing. A notepad might work, being able to write on the screen would be even better...).

My $0.02...

I also like the idea of an iTablet. But I think that maybe if Apple releases one in a few years, they may sell more of them than if they released one now. I don't really have a need for it, so I probably wouldn't buy one.

i don't feel like there's anything that a tablet has over a... let's say... 12" powerbook. power book is light, small, screen won't get scratched while carrying, easy text input... i don't know what would make apple release a tablet...

I hope Apple releases an iTablet.

According to all of my friends, the history teacher i'm going to have next year talks really fast (and history is the only subject where you really need a laptop) and even though I can type pretty fast, it makes a lotta noise.

But I'm guessing from the reaction i constantly get from people that it's not a great idea (one of my friends was practically drooling [for real, almost went on my TiBook, eew] when i was showing him the new ads [yes, this was back when apple still had the cosmos ad] for the 12" and 17" powerbooks) to bring a Mac to a school where everyone has a PC.

for me, it would be very nice.

meeting in conference room... take my computer with me. great for referencing emails spreadsheets etc. in said meeting. pass it around to show figures... or set up a quick powerpoint/keynote presentation

personal use? not likely. my 1999 IBM thinkpad is fine for as long sa it lives (i hope 2 or 3 yrs of light use).

Apple should release a cool product like iPod. I think it will save Apple big time. The new device should run Mac OS X and should be appealing to mass market. I heard that Windows iPod is overselling Mac iPod, that means, more and more windows users are realzing how cool Apple prodcuts are. If apple can bring a true mobile device with color screen/Mac OS X Lite, we will have more Mac OS X users. please apple, give us an iPhone.

I'd buy one the second they came out. For people who actually draw a lot and don't want to go buy a PC notebook tablet (uber expensive and they still use PIII's) this would be a perfect option. This is one growing market that the mac is quickly falling behind.

An iTablet would be a big mistake on aspple's part. There is very
little demand for iTablets.

I'm planning now in giving all of our high school students iBooks or 12" Powerbooks. At the tech conference in Dallas I played at length with an HP tablet, and was at first impressed. When I really started to analyze my particular needs (education) I came up with more reasons against than for, not even counting the fact that it'll be a cold day in hell before we go Windows. But the concept had to be considered. Right now they're too expensive, and later, after about 30 minutes of playing on one, realized it was damn slow and didn't have a very intuitive way to write and save. Now if Apple could make some astounding changes to the concept...well, we'll see.
