Powerbook Lombard wi-fi signal problems

I just got a wi-fi card for my 333MHz Lombard Powerbook, it's the Linksys WPC54G Version 2. The problem is that the wireless internet only seems to work with in 3-5 feet of my base station. I know it's not the base station because my other two Mac's that have Apple Airport cards work well and have good range all over the house. Is there a way to get better reception from the Linksys card Lombard?
