This report is really informative. I'm in the market for firewire external drives, and even tho I don't own a mini, some of the reviewed models are quite attractive. Plus they are all generally stackable / chainable-- so adding storage would be sleek and easy.

I think the LaCie is a nice choice. 250gig firewire for $179. Quite reasonable.

What sort of reputation does MicroNet have? My father is in love with his mini, but has been griping about the need for additional storage and USB ports; the 250 GB miniMate would be perfect. Good Father's Day gift or something.

What sort of reputation does MicroNet have?I don't know about the company but noticed the miniMate only has a one-year warranty.

I'm considering hooking a NewerTech (OtherWorldComputing) miniStack V2 to my iMac G5. It has a two-year warranty if a hard drive is included, which is confusing since the drives alone have longer warranties.

I've never had any trouble with other FireWire storage I've bought from OWC. I'm selling the smallest box (120GB) to a friend and replacing it with a miniStack seems the optimal way to increase storage space and expansions ports in a single package. Then I can move one of the other 250GB boxes to my wife's eMac.
