can quicktime pro convert .AVI movie files into .MPEG4 movie files so i can put the movie on my ipod?

If Quicktime player can play them, Quicktime Pro should be able to convert them. I haven't tried it, but I've heard people say iMovie can do the same thing without you having to pay for Quicktime Pro.

how can iMovie do it?

Import them, place them on the timeline... choose Share/Export and choose the iPod option.

i've tried that... i don't have the ipod option even when the ipod is plugged in.

Quicktime Pro can do it. I dont know about iMovie though.

iTunes 6.0.2 and above have a "Convert to iPod" selection for movies in the library. QT Pro has "iPod" as one of the Export options. IIRC, both of these use H.264 at 320x240.

From reports here and elsewhere, it's pretty slow going.

Go to Share -> Share -> and iPod should an option at the top. This may vary on different versions of iLife. What version are your running?

i got it! (i hope) i have iLife 04... there's no ipod sharing option so i said to share it with a CD and it compressed it and put it in a file i could put into iTunes so it should go onto the ipod when it get's home... thank u everyone...
