If Quicktime player can play them, Quicktime Pro should be able to convert them. I haven't tried it, but I've heard people say iMovie can do the same thing without you having to pay for Quicktime Pro.

iTunes 6.0.2 and above have a "Convert to iPod" selection for movies in the library. QT Pro has "iPod" as one of the Export options. IIRC, both of these use H.264 at 320x240.
From reports here and elsewhere, it's pretty slow going.
i got it! (i hope) i have iLife 04... there's no ipod sharing option so i said to share it with a CD and it compressed it and put it in a file i could put into iTunes so it should go onto the ipod when it get's home... thank u everyone...
