Does anyone else have this problem? It is all music I have purchased from the ITMS. A good portion of the music has simply stopped playing all the way through. I don't understand it.

I haven't changed any of the options in the "info" window that would cause the music to start and stop at certain point.

I e-mailed Apple iTunes Music Store support and they told me that I need to make sure I have the latest versions of iTunes and Quicktime. And I do. I was kind of pissed at their response, as that is a no brainer, especially for newer music - you need the latest version of iTunes for playback.

If no one here knows what to do, I am going to have to e-mail them again.

Thanks in advance!

First off, give it a little longer than a couple of hours before bumping. And give us a little more info - what are you playing them on? Your iPod, your computer - what OS is it running etc?

Are they playing at all - is there any pattern to when they stop?

I had a problem where all my iTMS songs skipped through on my iPod although playing on the Mac. The cure for that was restoring the iPod.

Have you tried deauthorising your computer and then reauthorising it to play songs?

Have you checked the 'Start/Stop' times of the affected songs in case something has set them to end early?

I appreciate the response, but it only helps me get responses faster when I bump my post. No harm done to anyone.

There are a couple (not sure how many in total) that do not play all the way through on my Mac, and several more that do not play all the way through on my iPod. Mac OS X 10.4.5.

And as I stated above, I have not changed any options that would cause the song to end/start at different times.

Getting ready to run an iPod restore right now, we'll see if that fixes the problem...I wasn't at home earlier when I posted, so that wasn't an option at the time.

Except another person with a problem who is following the rules and not bumping. You might also find that you won't get responses faster if you make it a habit since many of the regulars around here will just get irritated and not bother answering at all.

Good luck with the restore although I'd try the de-authorise/authorise within iTunes first since it's much quicker than waiting for your iPod to reload completely.

Well, the iPod restore did not work. I saw there is an update that is available for my iPod, and I tried that too, but no joy.

I'm going to try and deauthorize my computer now.

im having the same issue at the moment with my generation 3 20gb ipod.
it seems to play some songs all the way through but others will play roughly the 1st 1:30....
my ipod is windows formatted, since i didnt have my ibook when i got my ipod and i havent found a way of transfering itunes playlists between my windows pc and my mac.

it has only recently been doing this.
before this everytime i'd plug it into my pc it would come up with a scan disk error....dunno wat that means.....
ummm dunno wat more to say... i havent found a solution....thought i'd provide my feedback on the case as it sounds similar...

I've seen this problem on a few tracks before. I extracted them using an audio editor that I've got, and found that the songs stopped playing around the same time as a skip in the track itself.

Don't know a fix for it, but it may just be the case of randomly losing bits on your HDD that your songs are stored on. All of a sudden, iTunes or your iPod sees a bit-string that it doesn't recognize and so it'll jump to the next song.

Best/easiest way to fix it; download/rip the song again. Unless anyone else has any ideas.

Does it play all the way through in iTunes, and only fail on an iPod?

I have several albums that won't play right on my 1st gen Shuffle, but play perfectly fine in iTunes. Apple refuses to do anything to address the problem. I'm hesitant to spend money on any of the newer Shuffles or even a flash based Nano, since I don't know if these albums will work on them. They all play fine on my 5th gen 60GB iPod Video, though.

more often than not, the songs fail on both iTunes and on the iPod (60GB Video - 5G)

I had the same problem. Be aware I am on a mac so I don't know what the solution for pc users is.

1.) Back up your library to your desktop or hard drive then shut down itunes.
2.) Remove these files from you user>music>itunes folder(or move them outside the folder)
iTunes Library Extras.itdb
iTunes Library Genius.itdb
iTunes Library.itl
iTunes Music Library.xml

3.) Go to import playlist and select the iTunes Music Library.xml file that you backed up in step 1.
4.) itunes will rebuild your library and recreate the 4 files that were removed.

For me the songs now play all the way through.

Thanks: your solution fixed the issue for me. I was sweating because after consolidating my library, I deleted a lot of duplicates... duplicates that might have been tried in place of the problem tracks...

...but I found that the music files were not corrupt: they play all the way through when previewed in Finder instead of in iTunes.

Glad I found this thread.
