Methinks this could result in higher-than-expected iPod sales in the near future. Japan has quite the buying power...

Yes, Japan is the second largest economy in the world but they lack the large "under class" that we in the US have, So yess, the average person has pretty good buying power.
I'm been to Tokyo a number of times as my wife's relatives live there. What's different between there and Los Angeles, where I live is that people over there typically don't own cars and use public transportation. They walk and wait for and ride on trains. This means they have a lot of time available to use an iPod. A commuter train is the perfect place to use an iPod.
And also, maybe just as important, not owning a car means you have available all that money that is otherwise spent on a car, thousands per year more to spend on consummer items
