it say that Inactive ram is taking up 2.11 GB of ram. I have a dual 1.8 ghz power mac with 3 GB of ram. After restarting it goes to normal but after about 30 minutes uses up another 2.11 GB of ram. What is happing, what is inactive ram, and how do I stop it.

Thanks,
Ben

Don't worry about it. Inactive RAM is RAM that has been assigned to a specific process, isn't needed anymore and can now be assigned to any other process. It's in no way a problem. :)

A good rule of thumb is to look at the combined Free RAM and Inactive RAM to determine how much useable RAM you actually have.

How's that post count coming? And what the heck are you laughing at?

Like madjew said, its nothing to worry about. The only problem comes when you're starting to have a lot of pagein/outs. You can open up Activity Monitor and check that. But I imagine with 3GB of RAM, you have very little to worry about.

There needs to be a bolded statement in the FAQ's, Guides, and in the user agreement about inactive RAM in OS X.
