I have a Powerbook G4 with a Superdrive. I believe the max write speed is 4x for the DVD. Would it be ok if I order 8X DVD-Rs? Would there be any problems with the burn process?

It should burn fine, it just may burn at the 1X instead of the 4X as some of the PB SDs were picky about it. Check what drive you have in there then do a Google search and see if it comes up with any problems about burn speed.chuchichan2524 said:

True, the mac mini G4 & powerbook G4 DL drives are matsushita (and they are shita) and although they report 4x or 8x recording most people could only ever get 2x out of them.
I found that discs that use MMC dye work best on these drives.
Even though for other stuff, Verbatim or Ritek G05 dye based discs offer better compatability, its the MMC that does the trick with matsushitty 🙂

yea, definately go with tdk or verbatim, i've had no trouble burning at 8x with those. i didn't even know there was an issue with some dvds until i recently bought a 50 spindle pack of maxells only to find that i could get no better then 2x on them. when i called applecare, they told me it was a known issue with some of the dies and they had a list of what works and doesn't. (nice of them to tell me before i wasted $30 on 50 dvds that take an hour to burn+verify 🙄 )
