2 days into owning my mini and it's jacked up!

O.k. Currently, I'm not at home where my USB cable is. I was driving to work and when I selected a song to play, it never played, and my screen is frozen in the on position. I tried holding down the power button but nothing is working. How do you power cycle the mini or am I going to have to plug in the USB cable and the charge process will unfreeze my iPod?
