My Power Mac only plays region 1 DVD movie disc.

Now, i am think about renting DVDs from Amazon.co.uk t watch
of course, these are all region 2 discs.

For this purpose, I am looking for a good external DVD drive which...

1. is Mac compatible
2. reasonably good looking
3. supports firewire 800/400 or USB 2.0 connection
4. allows me to watch a DVD smoothly

multi-region support will be a plus, but not neccessary
i am flexible with price, as long as it is worth the quality
can you guys please recommend me one...

thanks

I have a Lacie 16X External DVD DL Burner. I'm not going to be using it anymore as soon as I get my iMac, so I'll be looking to let it go pretty cheap. It's good looking, and it works very well over Firewire. Let me know if your interested.

I am looking to buy a Lacie external dvd drive to allow me to rip my region 1 dvds on my MBP. My MBP's internal dvd drive has already been set to region 3.

My question is, do the Lacie drives come with any specific region or do you set it in the same way as an internal drive? Or do they come region free and stay region free?

Thanks for any help.

I ended up getting the LG GSA-E40N model. It was all the shop had and I didn't want to wait. Anyway it was only US$77.

It's supposedly the world's first 18x DVD writer, but more importantly, it does exactly what I want it to do.

I purchased a sony DRU-810UL. I love it. At the moment I have it running with firewire 400, but you have the option to use USB 2.0. It's a dual layer burner, meaning if you use a dual layer disk, you can burn twice the amount of data than your normal, single-sided DVD.
