Did you manage to get on?
I'm in a similar situation -- all my friends are on but their status is too 'green' to invite me yet.
Can you help me?? Thanks!

I am a member but I think it goes against the whole concept of ASW to invite people you do not know to it.

Ditto.
It's the forbidden fruit aspect now. Me wants.
Google is my friend:

So - is it related? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Ok - NOW I'm actually curious: (from craigslist)

So why are people so crazy to join this social networking site. Everything I read about it so far (before I posted) makes it seem like this is the same mentality that leads to people buying $1000 wiis.

Nag, you hit the nail on the head. Everyone wants the cool thing NOW, no waiting allowed, cost be damned.

I don't necessarily want IN - I just want to see.
For the most part - well - completely - social network sites hold no appeal to me.
I mean, the internet is FOREVER. (forums included) - and I don't want anything serious to come full circle years later. Or for complete strangers knowing EVERYTHING about me - things that IMO - should be restricted to close friends / family for good reason.
Then again, I'm not some hot 18 year old college girl...

Eh, my internet footprint is pretty huge due to work and whatnot. But yeah, I never really understood social networking sites all that much. It is just the clique in digital form.

It is nothing like Facebook or Myspace.

Well as fascinating as knowing that it isn't like two sites, maybe you could narrow it down by saying what it is. Unless you want to list every site on the net it isn't like. :p

Yeah, looks like they just make it really hard to get in, make everyone sign an NDA or something so they can't say anything, and then throw out a bunch of celebrity names. Sounds like a waste of time just so you can pretend to be a hanging out with celebrities.

Its not an NDA, its more of an agreement.

You mean it is is like a NonDisclosure Agreement? :D
So basically, that link said exactly what I said but with more words and was less condescending.

No not an NDA just an agreement between all members.
I was making a joke. Unless you can find it in your heart to explain it to us lowly peons I'm going to have to chalk it up to Myspace for the rich and famous (and their servants). ;)

NAG - Remember when - (pre-dot com bust) - when "the internet knew no social, physical or financial boundaries" and all were supposed to be "equals"?
We always seem to find a way to show how we're different from, richer / poorer than, or better than others.
I don't understand that aspect of humanity, seriously.
But be it Nikes, Cars, Yachts, Homes, $10 Bottled water, Mensa or Invitation-only social networking sights - we always manage to pull it off.
