Problem using MIDI keyboard with Logic Express

Hello, I have recently started using Logic Express with a Tascam US-122 audio interface. This combination works perfectly fine for audio. However last night I tried to start using my Yamaha PSR - 290 as a MIDI controller with Logic Express. The MIDI cables are all connected properly and I can send MIDI out to the keyboard from the Logic Sequencer, so I know that the Interface and the keyboard are working properly. For some reason though I just cant seem to get MIDI in. For example...If I have an audio instument track with drums loaded into the sequencer I cant use the keyboard as a controller. Im thinking maybe it is a problem with channels or ports or something along those lines but I cant seem to figure it out.

Any help that could be given would be great. I have numerous deadlines to meet for the studio I work at and think it would be great to be able to do drum tracks at home.
