Are the screens supposed to be bigger than what is actually used? I mean, I hvae about a 2mm border of black around my desktop, like the whole screen isnt being used. Is this normal?

yeah, that's normal. i misread that at first as 2cm and i was about to say... something's REALLY not right there.

haha, yeah. 2 cm is approaching a full inch of black border. that would be very wrong.

I have a 12" latest revision iBook and it has that black border around the edges there. I thought it was abnormal for a little while first too but it's how it's suppossed to be.

I haven't seen an LCD without this, although I don't usually notice it. :)

Thanks for that, i've only just noticed it on my 12" powerbook!

Although it isnt 2mm, more like 1. Is this because the powerbook is slightly smaller and so has a smaller frame?

That's normal, it's outside of the 1024x768 area of the screen, so technically, the whole screen is being used (or as much as is supposed to be).
