I've recently bought 10.2 and I'm dying to update it with i-cal, safari...etc, the only problem is the version I have is simply 10.2
My internet connection is far too slow (56k modem), and the software update which would install 10.2.3 (combo) is 60.4mb (which I reckon would take about 10 years to download) ....oh not only this but when I've sat down to download after about 2 hours it stops saying there was an error. Is there any way I can bypass the long download time....and how can I stop these blasted errors !??!!

Sorry about your problem. Apple really has been making the last few updates huge.
You could try first updating to 10.2.1, then 10.2.2, and finally 10.2.3. Those individual updates should all be smaller.
You could also buy the update CD from Apple, for $19.95 I believe. But that's the quickest way to lose $20 on the planet. :)
Try downloaidng the smaller updates, not the combo.

Download it from this (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120164) address.
Use one of these Download Managers (http://www.versiontracker.com/mp/new_search.m?productDB=mac&mode=Quick&OS_Filter=MacOSX&search=download+manager) so that you can restart the download from where you left off in case you get cut off.
This is the actual URL for the download that you will want to enter into the download manager so that if can restart if it needs to.

Or...
You could find a computer with a high-speed connection (internet cafe?) and burn the update to CD. If you've got a notebook, you might be able to connect using your network/airport card.
Think about it though. Someone you know has a high speed connection at work, school, etc. Mac or PC, they can burn you an update disc.

Sammy.
Just a friendly reminder but it is considered proper etiquette to only post your thread once and only in one topic forum. Duplicating threads are considered spam. You can be kicked off the forums for spamming but in this incidence I doubt anything will come of it.

Just so you knwo demi-gods and the such have no real rulling power. They just get the title because they made a donation to the site. Even you can be one.
Most of us are just crack pots with too much time and really love the site so we made a donation. Some of us also from time to time try to help out newbies to prevent them from gettting in real trouble.

I only discovered this site recently and love it too, I thought that you had to be a regular poster to become a demi-god.....so you can pay your way to the top after all...I'm still getting to grips with the site...i think I'm becoming addicted it's 1am and I'm still furiously clicking/scrolling/reading away - I've been here hours !

in sunny melbourne, sometimes you can take a blank cd into a shop that sells apple computers and get them to burn a copy of the update for you... maybe the place you bought the computer might help out?

Do you have any friends with broadband...I mean I used to do that for one of my friends who moved out to the boondocks and I never minded. On broadband it takes like 5 minutes to download and burn the cd. Just an idea. Another idea might be to wait a few days with all these rumors of 10.2.4. If you gonna waste all that time on dialup I would wait another week to see if 10.2.4 comes out because I can only assume it will be decently sized and i'm sure they will have another comob 10.2.2-10.2.4 update. Just my thoughts and try to stay in one forum for the future.
