I hav e searched the forums, but no luck, besides removing the extra languages. When I drag a program icon from Applications to the trash, is that it? Does it remove all the files that were associated with the program?
Any tips?

Have you checked our guides (http://guides.macrumors.com/Freeing_Up_Hard_Disk_Space)? :)

No. you also have to empty trash. The bulk of the files in most cases are in the application, but sometimes its not. Do a spotlight search and that should help to.
I'm in a similar situation, i had a video project (which took up 20 GB out of 35 remaining on an 80 gb drive), and am trying to make more space.
Another thing you can do is compress unneeded files, and put them in a disk image. Just be wise with them.

You can get a program called WhatSize (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21149), and you can delete the files you don't want, such as language files as you have said and/or printer drivers too.

Disk Inventory X (http://www.derlien.com/index.html) is a bit cooler than WhatSize?, as it gives you a visual representation of what size each file is, in relation to others. A great app.

Use the application called AppZapper to remove things from the applications folder.

I'd rather use Disc Inventory X and get rid of "UNWANTED" files.

I use OmniDiskSweeper (http://www.omnigroup.com/applications/omnidisksweeper/) whenever I need to find out where the GBs went... free one day licenses on Omni's page...
Also, check out some of the tips in this thread (especially on page 2).
