It's the bar right above your keyboard and below the "MacBook Pro" text. You can cook eggs on mine. I realize that it is a machine and does give off heat, but sometimes I feel that the machine is going to set on fire.

I don't have a MBP, but seeing as that's not an area you would normally touch, they probably didn't pay too much attention to whether or not it was a little hot.

If it's hot enough to say.. burn skin at all.. then return it and get new replacement.

I think your real concern should be in regards to the MagSafe connector.

Wasn't that caused by a peeing cat though?

I'd hate to know what that cat was drinking... :p :D

Actually, I heard it was a short circuit - but never heard the specific cause (defect or user-related)... :o ;)

I have a PowerBook G4 and yes, mine also gets very hot. It's normal.

Don't think it's a problem. My iBook gets hot in the same place, whenever I stress it a little (i.e. run at near 100% CPU for a while). I think it's just one of many places where the engineers figured they could vent some heat without too much inconvenience for the user...

My powerbook gets hot in the same place. The MBPs and PBs get very hot especially in that area (and im not sure about MBPs but on PBs) and the upper left hand corner of the computer on the bottom. (i know, hard to describe).

You'll be fine.

Yup, same here. Also the left speaker (or rather, what's underneath it) gets very hot too.

Also, what happens to be right near that spot on iBooks, Aluminum Powerbooks, and MacBook Pro's? Yep, turn your lappy around, take a gander at the back. That's right, kids, a big huge vent for heat to dissipate from. It makes sense that a lot of heat is getting drawn to that general area.

Okay, sorry for the sarcastic tone guys, I know it was unnecessary, but I just had that going through my head. Forgive me, please. :o

My 2.0 MBP does and left side of speaker, too. Kinda worry...

I was using mine yesterday and last night in my hotel, I did some work and watched a movie on it. In the morning, I started it up and noticed that the keyboard looked funny. I guess it got so hot that it has warped the keyboard just to the left of the MBP logo. The 4 key is at the peak of the warp. If it was the 6, I might have thought that it was intentional and an attempt at an ergonomic keyboard.... I was really hoping that the MBP would solve the heat issues.
Guess I get to experience the famous Apple service now....

:o

That's completely normal. My PB gets danged hot, and so does the MBP at my work, in that place. If you think that's hot, touch underneath near the monitor latch.
