Forbes reports (http://www.forbes.com/technology/feeds/afx/2006/03/21/afx2611825.html) on claims that Quanta Computer has won contracts from Apple for the manufacture of "video iPod devices".

This appears to simply be the current 5G iPods, as the report continues to state that Inventec Applicances Corp is the current supplier of video iPods to Apple.

everyday it seems like there's more evidence supporting the video ipod. I guess it's more of a question of when than if.

But they just said that a design similar to the old 5g was re-sourced. That's bad news

yeah it could be read either way, good or bad news for those waiting on a new ViPod.

A good explanation why the 5G would be on the "at risk" list... because of this switchover....

The article I saw (I believe it was on digg) stated that Quanta was slated to be the supplier for the next ipod. Not the current iPod w/ Video, but rather the 6th generation iPod.

This gives me the impression that they hired Quanta to manufacture additional current iPod designs. Maybe the other contractor just couldn't keep up with the demand.

If that in fact is the case, hello 80GB 5G iPod! Bring it on - it's long overdue!

it's sad when tiny little iPod Hard Drives will be twice the capacity of your own desktop drive :o

considering I already own a video iPod I'm rather un-impressed with the rumors of an "actual" video iPod or whatever their calling it.
So we'll get a bigger screen...umm ok.

It could also mean that if Apple is planning to introduce an iPod with a larger (wide)screen as has been demonstrated ad nauseam, the current 5G will stick around with at least similar specifications.

I see the rumored video iPod as an augmentation, not necessarily a replacement, but I suppose it will ultimately come down to the consumers.
