Apple has seeded new versions of Mac OS X 10.4.6 to developers. The newest versions offer some additional fixes to Internet Connect, ImageIO, QuartzCore, AFP Serevr, WebKit Plugins, and Help Viewer.
At present the release has no known issues in these builds.
Mac OS X 10.4.5 was recently released (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2006/02/20060214163322.shtml) in February 2006.

I hope this works because help viewer works about 20 percent of the time for me, despite trying every fix I can find on the internet.

Hopefully 10.4.6 will fix the false mouse pointer bug. It's been present for a looong time. :(

How's about some updated drivers for the ATI mobility radeon 9700 which crashes my whole machine every day since I bought it. Give me some new drivers or take the machine back!

Hopefully this fixes the issue w/ the GE chipset where you get 75%+ packet loss when plugged into a dot1q port. This is a real issue when you connect to a corporate network that uses VoIP where the IT department uses the "Voice VLAN" feature to allow computers and VoIP phones to plug into network ports and join the correct VLAN.

Hope this fixes the Micro$oft hangs when restarting the machine and stops crashing the Lotus Notes Compacter daemon. The Notes is really annoying since I need to restart every time.
Hope they'll come out soon with Universal code....

I use the same graphics in my PowerBook G4 and never have a problem with it. What system are you using and what causes it to crash?

This is cool although I haven't had any particular problems with my 10.4.5 build apart from Safari freezing every now and again.

Wow fixes to Help Viewer. Would be nice to have that work for a change, fresh install of OS X couldn't even bring my Help Viewer back to life...

The main thing I hope this fixes is the problem of having to unplug and plugin your keyboard all the time because the keyboard entirely will stop working or the media keys will stop working on the new Intel Macs.

Are you sure you don't have a hardware issue.??

I have not had any issues with the KB, but my mouse trackpad on the Macbook Pro sometimes stops working. The keyboard will still work, but I need to either put the computer to sleep and awake again or start typing again, before I can reuse the trackpad.

Please elaborate on your problem. The same thing is happening to my Powerbook with the 9700. I wake it from sleep, open up safari, and it freezes. No kernal panic, the screen just freezes and I have to force reboot.
I've only had the machine for a few weeks, and it's really annoying me.

I've had a Macintel for several weeks now and never had that problem.
I do hope it might fix a problem with front row when I try to access the movies files on the HD. the whole computer freezes and I can't even force quite!

I had the same problem. It took me a long, long time to figure this out. The problem is that I had Video files that Quicktime couldn't handle. Some AVI files or something.
To fix it (make it work), move all of the files that won't run under Quicktime out of the Movies folder. I created a new Movie folder and called it Windows Movies and moved all the AVIs to that folder.
I hope this helps you. I didn't see anyone else mention this before and I never asked. I thought I was doing something wrong...
Good Luck!
Take Care,

10.4.5 has been flawless for me. I'm almost scared to upgrade when this does come out. I'm so happy after having issues in x.2 and x.3 that I don't really want to change anything unless they're adding features.

AppleCare told me that the next patch of 10.4, (10.4.6 I assume,) will fix the problem that I'm currently encountering when I try to view Movie Trailers in Front Row - it always says that the server is not responding - even though my internet conection is fine.
I know movie trailer support is a minor thing in Front Row, but I was really looking forward to using it!

I have not had any issues whatso ever with my 20'' IntelliMac. It seems like alot of people are having trouble with the keyboard or front row, but I havent had a issue yet.
Do you plug your mouse into your keyboard? and then the keyboard into the computer? I think if you do, that is your problem. I just plug my mouse and keyboard directly into the back of the computer. I dont use the keyboard USB ports at all because they are slow USB 1.1 boooooo. I just act like they arent even there.

Plugging mice into the keyboard has never been an issue on any Mac I've used over the years. USB 1.1 doesn't make a difference, it is a mouse, not a high speed device...
I guess it could be worth a shot though but I'm betting the people with issues have tried that already.
Seriously though Apple, fix the damn Help Viewer.

yeah, on all portables I used, since the ibooks and Pbs, and even now on the macbook, I'm experiecing significant trackpad precision problems. How bout when you calibrate your Palm touch screen? That would be cool to be able to calibrate the trackpad so when you click on a file it doesnt open the one next to it!

This will be out on Tuesday. Why? Apple has repeatedly stated that Aperture 1.1 will be released before the end of March. Aperture requires OS updates to include new RAW conversions. Aperture 1.1 supports Nikon D200 RAW files.
So for Aperture 1.1 to be released in the next seven days... 10.4.6 needs to be released first. History tells us that OS updates generally fall on a Tuesday.
http://www.apple.com/aperture/update.html says:
1) 1.1 Supports new cameras (thus requiring a Image Core OS Update from 10.4.6)
2) 1.1 Scheduled for release in March
If you've observed the rabid users in the Aperture Discussion threads at Apple Support-- you'll know they've received numerous confirmations that Aperture 1.1 (Universal) will be released this month... and that RAW processing is still handled by the OS and not the application. You have to have an OSX update to support a new camera.

This has happened to me about a dozen times in the 6 + years I've owned my Powermac G4. Can't remember for sure, but I don't think I've experienced it with 10.3.9, which is what I'm running now.
You guys are making me glad I never "upgraded" to Tiger. I'm kinda shocked that "The most advanced operating system in the world" still has all these issues 5 revs into Tiger. Maybe I'll wait until 10.4.9, and then take the plunge.

Wow...build 1116 vs. build 124. Is that good or bad?
On one hand...maybe it shows that Apple is throwing a lot of manpower behind QA and tweaking of the Intel builds, not to mention trying to keep it on Mac hardware.
Then again, maybe it means that the builds are ridiculously buggy and require all sorts of black magic to get working properly. Guess we'll never know :)

Interesting. I use my Mac on my network that is VLAN'd and have no problems. I am guessing the issue is limited to a specific switch manufacturer, perhaps? Strange though, as I use my Mac on all of my customers' networks and have never experienced a problem. Count me lucky, I guess.

Do you think that USB2.0 makes your mouse moving faster?
Seriously, a mouse is about the only thing you want to use 1.1 for...

I had this problem with my Intel iMac at first. Happened about once an hour on average and is completely infuriating. I had the problem constantly for just over a week I called Apple up and they sent me a new USB keyboard (exact same model) and since then I haven't had it reoccur at all. That was over a month ago and I use my iMac every day so I would have noticed by now.
So, just get your keyboard replaced and the problem is fixed.

10.4.6 will take Front Row off of your mac if it wasn't meant to be a Front Row mac. This happened with 10.4.4 i believe. Since Apple has made the guy with Front Row Enabler take that off of his site, it is impossible to find the Enabler, thus making it very very hard to put Front Row back on your non Front Row mac system.

It would also be sweet if they could fix the wireless VPN connection so it does not disconnect after a minute of being connected. I was also pissed about the westell 327W, however I've decided to drop my slow dsl connection for cable.
