Ipod Camera Conector imports photos directly from sd plus memory cards?

Does anyone know if you can take the memory card out of a camera (with photos) and import them onto your ipod using Apples Ipod camera conector. I am refering to the SD plus card that turns into a usb key with a little flip. I am guessing this will save battery life on the camera as I hear the camera concet drains power like a tollet drains water.

from what I heard it takes a while for them to trasfer. Like over a min per picture.

Yes but can you plug the USb part of the memory card directly into the camera connector and import photos to ipod?
