Another question that may seem dense, but lets remember I am going to be recieving my first mac in about 5 days :)

The question is at what version number did OSX become OSX Jaguar? My 800mhz Powerbook that I am getting comes wtih OSX v10.1. Is this OSX Jaguar or just OSX?

Thanks
Paul

Jaguar is OS X Version 10.2. TO go from 10.1 to 10.2 you need to buy OS X Jaguar (10.2).

The last version of 10.1 is 10.1.5. You should be able to update to that via the Software Update utility.

Jag is 10.2, and the most current version is 10.2.3 w/10.2.4 to come out soon.

OK, since my new powerbook is coming with v10.1 i wont have jaguar. Is jaguar significntly better? Being a student i can get OSX v10.2 for only $49. Is it worth the upgrade?

Thanks
Paul

Yes, it is worth the upgrade. You'll get improved graphics, improved printing, improved a lot of things as well as the ability to run the software that's coming out as needing OS 10.2 or later.

Just a thought (I don't know what you're paying etc.) but the 867 tibook is still about $100 less than the older 800mhz model where they're both sold new. The 867 also comes with Jaguar. Again, I don't know if you're buying your new computer new or used, but it may be worth looking into.

Oh yeah... and Jaguar is a major leap--worth the upgrade whatever you have to do.

The 800mhz Tibook with 512 of ram is 2,094 new from Jand R computer. The least expensice 867 I found was 2315 and it only has 256mb of ram. And i want the 15.2 screen so i didnt want to go with the new 12.1 alubook.
Thanks for all your help, I just orderd 0SX v10.2 and Office X from my university. Only $75.00 for both... I love beinga student :)
