I'm going to go out on a limb and say no....one is a desktop computer, and the other is a portable computer.

Uhhh... isn't a 17" = 17"? Maybe the aspect ratios (length versus height) are a bit different, but I think they are the same. The resolutions might be different however.

Didn't the PB screen dimensions change when they went supposedly "widescreen?" I'd guess the Widescreen PB 17" and the iMac 17" are similar in dimensions, although the resolution is higher on the PB.

up until the rev. e powerbook 17", they had identical displays. they even announced it as having the same display as the 17" iMac G4. then with the rev e, like mine, they bumped the resolution up to 1680x1050, or equal to the 20", but still the same physical dimensions as before

Yeah when I learned my PB was the same rez as the 20" I got a little tingly.

Thanks for the input on the monitors. BTW: The 17" is lower resolution than the Rev E PB.

He never specified that it was the screen size he was comparing.
