Funny how CNet gave Apple the thumbs down for its cabling arrangement, when Anandtech did just the opposite in their Dell 20 v Apple 20 review.

I generally take CNet with a grain of salt these days...though I agree that the Apple 30" is better, mostly because the Dell 30" isn't a huge savings over the Apple, as it is with the 20" 2005FPW.

BTW OS X has biult-in text smoothing, so step 2 is better in ACD

Yeah..if you are going to test a Display made for the PC you test it with a PC and if you test a display for the Mac then test it with a Mac, so test the Dell and ADC with both a PC and a Mac :cool:

I couldn't tell if you were serious or not with this response, but just in case you [or anyone] don't think windopes buy Apple displays, you're sorely mistaken.

I see it all the time, and just within the past 2 weeks I've seen 2 windopes return 23" Apple Cinema displays... because they wanted to upgrade to the 30".

I know, sounds too coincidental and like I'm making it up to lend credence to my point, but it's true nonetheless.

I wonder if they're just calibrated differently. I didn't notice in the review them mentioning calibrating the monitors at all.

The Dell LCD owns the edge in price, costing $2,199 to the Apple's $2,500.

I see that all the time when they compare Macs to PCs...they list the iBook as $1000 and the PC as like $967.48. It's annoying.

According to C|Net's website (http://reviews.cnet.com/Labs/4520-6603_7-5098394-1.html?tag=txt) they do perform calibrations of LCDs prior to testing, and use a controlled lighting environment. But they aren't clear on what they do to calibrate. They say they use manufacturer recommendations. But I would be shocked if the ACD comes with instructions on how to calibrate it in Windows?

For that matter, how *do* you calibrate a monitor in XP/SP2 or in Win2k? :o

I do know they use Apple monitors at their corporate site. Besides, when the press reported the two Google founders, there were beautiful Apple monitors sitting right after tehm in their office.

The Dell 30" can be had for less then $1600 because they have all those online coupons and dells and such, just like the Dell 20 and 24. So just like the Apple 20 vs Dell 20, when you compare the 30s you have to ask, "is a silver paintjob really worth ~$900?" For me, HELL no. ;)

its not as simple as a paint job...its an actual difference in the materials (Al metal vs plastic)...but i guess it takes more brain power to notice this...

..and as the review points out, it is not just a paint job. This monitor out performs the Dell. So not only does it look awesome, it also performs that way aswell.

I too have seen this. I currently work in computer retail and have had a few asking about ACDs working with PCs. I have to say that for our area, we have mainly had this asked by Oriental students, (mainly Malaysian and Chinese in Nottingham). They have loads of cash and want the best and most stylish products.
