I'm curious to see what people still value one of these at,

This is the October 2005 model that has the 1440x960 LCD and its hardware is as follows:
1.67ghz G4
100gb 7200rpm Hdd
2gb DDR4200
ATI 9700 128mb w/DVI & S-Video (can drive 30" display)
8x Super Drive (dual layer)
Software - OS X 10.4.3 / iLife 05' / Office 2004

It is dented in the front right corner of the bottom case (not the lcd just the bottom half) as well as scratched from normal wear and tear of daily use. The laptop works well for 720p movie's and it's battery holds an excellent 3.5 hours of charge.

I will post pictures if you think that will help determine it's value.

.:: Edit ::.

If anyone wants full high res pictures (http://www.lanecampbell.com/powerbook.zip) of it to see it from different angles.

Here is the notebook's damage zoomed in from a few different angles.

Sorry bout the size i just wanted it clear

As for the warranty Apple Store techs called it normal wear and tear when replacing the Optical drive! I bought it brand new in October and I could still buy Applecare for it but I never intended to keep it more than a year.

I was looking for around $1800 seeing as it cost $2500 new and it has a copy of Office 2004 included. If I can't get closer to that I may hold on to it for another 4 or 5 months.

I think looking at the Refurbished Apple Store's stock is a good place to start for determining the value of these computers.

They've got nearly the same model, but with the smaller hard drive and less RAM for $1599. So, you've got those two things raising the price a bit on yours. However, it's got a bit of physical damage to it. I know that the guys at Apple can be pretty strict about honoring warranties if they can find a way to blame it on misuse/abuse, so depending on the dent, the price would vary.

If the dent clearly isn't a big deal, and can be said that it *definitely* isn't affecting anything else, I'd say you're probably looking at about $1750-$1850, maybe a little bit more, depending on the buyer. However, if the dent is a little more serious, I'm really not sure what it would be worth, because it's going to be harder to get anything fixed under warranty, in my opinion. Maybe $1550-$1650? I'm not sure about that one though.

Does it have the horizontal line issue? That will depreciate the value too.

I would think that with the Macbook Pro being out and all ... the values of PPC laptops would drop a lot... $1600 for the PPC Powerbook with horizontal lines issue is not that great of a deal, especially when one can get a Macbook Pro for a little bit more that is Intel based without said issues...

I would have to agree. One would think that the value od PPC's would of dropped to the 1200 dollar range by now. I mean for 1900 you can have a MBP.

I'd say $1700 or so. The physical damage hurts the price quite a bit, but it's nicely upgraded. The horizontal lines aren't much of a worry because apple is now fixing that problem under warranty (see the 2000 post thread for details!).

Actually since there is physical damage applecare may have been voided. Depending on how apple sees it

People seem to forget that Photoshop, InDesign, Quark, Illustrator and a bunch of other programs don't run on Intel Macs natively yet and the Powerbook G4 holds its own and surpasses the MBP in these programs. And sure you can get a MBP for $200 more but it'll have 20GB less drive space on a slower drive and 1/4 the RAM, 4x Superdrive vs. 8x DL, and no FW800, not to mention some people are really picky about the minor issues with the MBPs right now and would prefer a slower Rev E. product vs. a faster Rev A product...just a thought.

possibly, but it's more likely that they just wouldn't honor the warranty with respect to those areas of the computer that were damaged. As the screen isn't damaged and the lines are a known problem unrelated to the damage, I imagine it would be covered.

I started my new quarter at school and I was a bit distracted with that, but now I am back and posting some pictures of the notebook to show the damage on the side and to get a more accurate feel based on that.

I have never noticed any lines on the LCD but if any buyers notice it then just take it to the Apple store and they give you a new LCD for free. I will be happy to ask Apple to replace the LCD before shipping it to you if I get near enough to what is fair for it.

To answer the PM's i'm getting; Yes! I am interested in selling if the price is right. I have the original box papers and I might even be able to dig up the paperwork from Apple regarding the replaced Superdrive.

I put the pictures in the original post and added some more information.
