Ok guys & gals, I've been offered this but the seller hasn't a clue how much it's worth and is asking way too much (being totaly unrealisitc).

How much is this setup worth do you think.

Powermac G5 Dual 2.5ghz, 512mb mem, Radeon 9600xt 64mb, 160gb HD, Superdrive

Keyboard & Mouse

(pretty much stock with NO upgrades at all).

How much is this worth on it's own?

2 x 17" ADC Apple Cinema Display
1 ADC - DVI adapter

Again how much for the 2 montiors & adapter on their own, and as a package with the G5?

I've was thinking around €1400 for the powermac $1690
And around €500-600 for the 2 displays. $600-700

Is that too little, too much or about right?

As far as the Power Mac goes, they've got that exact model at the U.S. Apple store (refurbished), selling for $2049, with the one year of Applecare and the chance to get two more years. If the one you've been offered doesn't have Applecare anymore, and because it's not coming from Apple itself, I'd say you can probably take $200 or so off Apple's price, leaving you at somewhere in the $1800-$1850 range.

I think $600-$700 for the monitors seems a bit high. I don't know what those monitors are going for today, but I know that as far as monitors go, you can get a whole lot for $700. Basically, even if those monitors were worth $600-$700, I wouldn't get them. You'd be able to get two very good, brand new 17" monitors, save some money and buy a 20" widescreen, or spend an extra $100 and get a 24" Dell. All three of those options seem more appealing to me than the two Apple monitors.

That makes sense to me, but I'd like to hear if anyone agrees/disagrees.

Like stex said, asking $600-700 for those two displays is too much in my opinion... for $100-150 more you could get either A) one 24" Dell or B) two 20" Dells. Those seem like much more attractive options to me. If you were set on staying with those Appple displays, I wouldn't pay more than $500 for the both of them. Heck, even at $500 I would hesitate because at that price point you could get two NEW 19" displays. $400-450 max would be more like it, IMO.

If you can get the PM for ~$1700, I'd say that would be a decent enough deal.

i may be 'jumping the gun'
but whenever i've been 'offered' or 'contacted to buy'...etc and the seller has no clue-- usually it is a fake thing
esp when the prices are WAY off kelter

i was offered a 17"PB for 800$us about a week after they started shipping (way back when)

of course i jumped all over it
& of course i was retarded & lost the $800
so... unless you can touch & test the machine.... or know someone who knows the seller...etc i'd be wary- esp if the prices are out of wack or the seller doesn't know much about the product

But usually when that happens the prices are too low as to increase interest. In this case, the OP is thinking that the prices are too high, meaning that the seller just has unrealistic expectations. Always good to be vigilant, but I think things aren't really sounding fishy quite yet.

It's not a trading scam my friends. I know the mac exists - i ordered it for him in the first place & updated the os for him recently.. Just wasn't sure how much resell value on them had held up or depreciated...

Don't really need this machine, I have PM G5 anyway, and was holding the money for a new laptop (macbook 13" whenever it gets released)

Yeah I offered the €1850 for the lot, and passed him on some ebay prices for comparison.

Told him that's my best offer and if he gets someone to take it fair dos. Not willing to pay any more. If I upgrade my powermac it will be for an intel model in Jan 07 when my applecare run's out :)

----

He originally wanted €6,000.... Reckoned he spent €10k on it orignally, though he forgets I'm the one who ordered it for him and know it cost just over 4,250..... Prat!!!

From www.macofalltrades.com they are offering to buy the G5 for $1450 which is the bottom price.

Well after some figures the cost US would be about $2600-2700 (without tax) going through the Apple Refurb site. For you that would be around say $2100, maybe a tad less? I am going to guess that this isn't the Quad 2.5 right?
I'd say keep stuffing your little piggy bank for that nice one in 2007 and maybe a few extras for yourself, say that larger tablet 12x19 ;)

Are you sure about that gfx card? I don't remember a 9600 XT with 64mb VRAM. I thought it was 128.
