View Full Version : Ack! Ashlee Simpson has good taste in music?

Ashlee Simpson's Playlist (iTMS Link) (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewMix?id=131834455&s=143441&wm=1)

So I have this law that any 'musician' who has one of their own songs on their playlist is a no talent hack that I will never listen to again. Yea, I'm crazy like that.

Anyway, much to my chagrin, Ashlee Simpson didn't do this and more surprisingly had Patty Griffin and Jeff Buckley on her list. Which begs the question: If she likes good music, why is she so content making such horrible music?

:D

Some musicians (prolly not Ashlee) make music
because they want to hear what they like and
they hope enough other people like it to buy
it too. If it is a niche genre or something, then
I don't see a problem with listening to your
own stuff. I do it occasionally with my music,
but that is partly to review it to see what I
can add or improve.

I don't want to defend Ashlee Simpson, but
I can see where real musicians might listen
to their own stuff sometimes.

Too many record execs and not enough talent, that's why.

Hey, I think I listen to great music (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPublishedPlaylist?id=652715&s=143441), too, but I can't possibly make quality music myself.

She probably doesn't have much direction or control of where her music goes. She probably doesn't care anyways.

Please realize you do not have to push enter every time you get close to the edge of the box, it will automatically move you down to the next line. Imagine that! You should give it a try ;) :)

I like Ashlee Simpson. I even have an autographed CD of hers I waited 10 years in line in NYC to boot! Virgin Megastore was nice.

I have some photos I shot of her coming forth in my upcoming book (through iPhoto none the less).

Link doesn't work here. A quote of the tracks would have been nice.

Its funny how you'll find that many artist's favourite music is not at all like there own....I seem to remember reading an article years ago about backstreet boys and how the music they listened to was mainly Rock and Metal things like 'system of a down' and 'slipknot'...

I really like the Celebrity playlists on iTunes, Kanye West's is really cool....

What's even weirder is that U2 appears in Shagrath's favorite bands, summat you would never expect from a public satanist

i bet 10 bucks she didnt make that list.
Ashlee simpson is a bought and sold commodity.
She should have died about a year ago but the
execs have invested too much to let their investment die.

I'm really sorry to point this out and make myself out to be a douchebag but it's my only pet peeve so bear with me. The phrase "beg the question" does not mean "raises the question." I've never heard it used correctly except from an English professors mouth.

"Beg the question" is a logical fallacy, occuring when you assume the thing you are attempting to prove.

Here is a correct example.

"You should use Enzyte because women love a larger penis."

"Why do they love a larger penis?"

"Because it is more satisfying."

"Why is it more satisfying?"

"Because it's larger."

"Sir, that simply begs the question! And I'll take two bottles, please."

The only reason this bothers me so much is because so many people use the incorrect meaning that it's gaining more and more acceptance. This is one of the few things I have to feel smarter than other people. Without this, I have so little to be smug about. :(

YES! I took 'PY/CS 201 Reasoning and Argumentation' at university and learned all about these things... it's definitely useful to rip apart people's arguments.

Same for Mandy Moore's playlist...I figured there would be a bunch of teenybopper-pop crap on there, but she's actually got a lot of really good songs on it.

Perhaps because of her relationship with Zach Braff?

I totally agree with obeygiant. There is no way that her managers would ever let her actually make this list. Even if she did like this music an iTunes list is a marketing tool that they would never leave up to her.

I'm still trying to figure out if/why anyone buys any of her songs. Really bad music + annoying + public embarassment + unattractive.

Good taste?

Marley - Is this love (great)
Madonna - Burning up (she's hot, but not a big fan)
The Police - So lonely (great)
Patty Griffin - let him fly (meh)
Steele Pulse - Roller Skates (meh)
Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Maps (awesome)
Glassjaw - Ape Dos Mil (uh?)
Donny Hathaway - A Song For You (uh?)
Jack Johnson - Banana Pancakes (not great, sucks actually. get over him.)
Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye (uh?)
Melissa Etheridge - The Letting Go
Billie Holiday - Come Rain or Come Shine (um...?)
Rosie Thomas - Wedding Day (wtf)
Björk - All is full of love (sucks. uber suck.)

So, all of them with the acception of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs are well-known? I could find songs on iTunes that trump her medicore taste.
