A co-worker had to reformat his Windows HDD and in doing so lost his iTunes music collection. All his music is still on his iPod, though, and he asked for my help getting back it to his computer, but I only have Macs.

Here are my questions:

1). Can I mount his "Windows" iPod on a Mac without screwing anything up? If so, can I then use iPodRip (my plan was to copy his music to an external HDD if possible and then move it over to his computer from there)?

2) Is there a Windows equivalent to iPodRip (this would certainly be the easier route)?

Thanks in advance,

In regards to the first question, it should be good as long as you don't have iTunes set up to automatically update.

Not sure about the second part, but they could get the files off the iPod by unhiding the folders.

I unfortunately had to do this on my Windows machine when my iMac went in for the power supply/midplane transplant last August.

I used a program call iPod Agent, but that has been replaced by PodPlus (http://www.ipodsoft.com/index.php?/software/podplus).

Excellent. That's exactly what I'm looking for. I'll point him in the right direction (unfortunately for him, I have his iPod right now :) ). If he can't get that to work I'll have to go with the HDD through Mac route.

Thanks for you input everyone.
