Does anyone know where to get a transition that uses the gaussian blur? I want it to blur then un blur into the next clip.

Check out this package of free plugins (http://www.mattias.nu/plugins/), a few very useful plugins I use all the time.
Edit: incase you miss it, to download it just fill in the box with your email address and hit download.

What you want is included in Nattress Free Plugins for Final Cut Pro.
http://www.nattress.com/Free/freeFCP.htm
It's called G Blur Dissolve.

Make your own, add a Gaussian blur to the clip, keyframe the amount value from 0 to X (whatever you want the high end to be) over 15 frames or so, then add the same filter to the next clip and start at value X and then down to 0 over 15 frames or so. Add a 5-10 frame cross dissolve for good measure and whalla!

or open my wind blur cross and remove the arithtmetics from where it says aspectof(dest) to just that.
