My PowerPC supports ATA IDE hard drive and same for the CDROM. Could I just plug my PC's Pioneer DVD-105S where the existing CD-ROM is plugged into ? Will it damage my Mac system if I try this and it does not work ? Would it work ? Thanks in advance.

If the CD drive works, it'll work. Insert a CD into the drive after you install it, and see if it pops up.

It shouldn't damage your computer, though.
The expanision slot is there for a reason, try it out!

You won't do any damage at all to your system. Still, you'd want to test the drive out first after you install it. Just pop a DVD in and see if it reads.

You'll also have to set the DVD-ROM to Master using the jumpers.

It will work fine, I grabbed the DVD-ROM out of my roomates Dell and put it in my B/W G3 and it worked with no problem. Now I have a 24x Apple CD-ROM added to my collection.

Thanks everyone...it worked. Just plugged in the DVD-ROM and had no problems reading CD's and DVD's. Many thanks.
