Okay, folks, here it is! The beta release of the Unofficial© (until arn or someone makes it official) MacRumors RSS widget. It came to me in a dream and I put a lot (not really :rolleyes: ) of effort into it.
Yes, I had a dream about MR. :eek:

Download it, check it out, and let me know how I can improve it. I would like to add a search function for the forums, but I cant figure out MR's search.php thingy. Also, If you have any ideas about updating the UI, please let me know. This one was probably my fastest photoshop job ever.

I have a cramped dashboard and a mini version that only displays the last five would be nice. Of course it scrolls so its not that bad, but I like lite versions of my widgets.

Maybe less on the top too.

I think it would be nice if it would minimize and only show the most recent article, then if it was clicked it would pop open (similar to the dictionary widget) and display the last 10 articles.

When minimized, maybe it could look like this? (please excuse the bad photoshop job) :o

edit: I would have added the "pop-out" button at the bottom, but didn't know how

- icon doesn't fit in. It needs to be square and glossy like the old purple one.

- the apple is messy and too pink

- lose the .com it's not needed


Some ideas:

- it would be cool if the rumor titles could expand to show the full rumor then link to the thread

- I would like to be able to keep an eye on certain threads

- resizable is always good

My suggestions:

- Try and match the color skeme of MacRumors
-The logo is a bit tinted pink in the middle, could you make it whiter?
-This might be to hard, but can you make it so you can view the front page article right in the widget? Not a big deal but would let you check through all of them faster and would have a strong "wow" factor.

Figured out the pink thing. I have the opacity set at 70%.
You will see all these fixes in v1.0 (as opposed to the current v1.0b)

I have a cleaner cutout/png of the logo if you want it. Used it to build what what we'll now call the 'interim' Macrumors widget a while back. (I like your scrollbar better.) Let me know if you want it.

Yep- There you go. It's smallish- so it will work for the top-right corner one fine I assume. Mine had a slight shadowing you might want to use to help lift it off the red. I didn't put that in the file though because I didn't know if you're using Fireworks or Photoshop.

Just got my MBP back from repairs... so yeah. Also I was waiting for Photoshop elements 4 to arrive, which it did yesterday. Today is garage cleaning day... perhaps later tonight I'll install it. soo... im still working on it. ;)

How about having a preference side so that the user could choose Page 2, Mac Bytes, or the Forums instead of just the home page rumors.

Okay heres the deal people: Im still working on the widget. If anyone has javascript experience I would love some help (as my java knowledge amounts to, well, nothing)
Also, Its finals week. AFTER next tuesday is the earliest I could expect to devote a solid chunk of time to the MR widget. Be patient!

Again, please PM me if you would like to help out. I am awaiting illustrator, but if anyone else has GUI ideas or expertise please feel free to let me know.

* I would make the Macrumors text on the widget link to the macrumors page not too the feed

* the icon on the top right of the widget is a little bit bad quality

* The search function doesn't work

* i would lose the Mariposa productions thingy
