Sorry for yet another speaker thread. I've searched and read quite a few of them lately, and was about sold on a pair of Logitech Z4's...until I saw them in person. The sub is HUGE!
So, that being said, can someone recommend a decent pair of speakers that:
-are of reasonable size and don't include a HUGE (or any) sub
-are preferably in the $50 range, but no more than $75
-sound decent...I'm NOT an audiophile. As long as I can hear my music with no feedback at a reasonable volume, I'm happy.
Am I asking too much here? Do all speakers come with a giant sub these days?

Sorry, this should have gone in the "buying help" forum, but any help would be appreciated.

I really like my Apple Pro Speakers because they're small and go well with my hardware. If you can find a Griffin iFire, the Pro Speakers will work with any computer with a firewire port.

I bought a Virgin Boomtube on the 'net for approx $20. It's cool because it's portable, sounds great, takes batteries or AC adapter, and works with any system. I use it with my iPod at work.

I just bought the JBL Creature Speakers II last week. I love them. They're very small & sound fairly good. They're a bit bright in the high end, but sound decent. The 4" sub is nicely tucked away in the corner next to my desk. I got them for $62.50 plus shipping from B&H (www.bhphoto.com).

disclaimer: I do not have a relationship with JBL or B&H. Just a happy B&H (and now jbl) customer.

If you want just 2.1 sound, I have seen a great pair of speakers at WalMart which I purchased for $20.00. They are from Creative and they sound good. I was very surprised. I expected crappy sound for $20 but they are decent.

Cyber acoustics has a nice, small 2.1 set for around $20. The sound quality is very good. Me and my dad both have them for our ibooks. They also have a slighly larger set for $30 i think

If you are looking for 2.1 sound I will recommend Klipsch Promedia 2.1 ($69.98 buy it now on eBay).
If you are looking for 2.0 sound (no subwoofer) I will recommend Klipsch Promedia Ultra 2.0 ($49.99 buy it now on eBay).
I have the Promedia 4.1 system and I wouldn't buy anything else. The Logitech systems are centered around bass output rather than sound quality, and the JBL's just sound like small speakers.
The Klipsch systems are very clear and have a nice soundstage. When listening to, say, Norah Jones, close your eyes and it sounds like she is singing right in front of you. You can't tell where your speakers are. Very nice. Klipsch speakers are very crisp and bright sounding.
I have yet to hear the Klipsch 2.0's, but if they sound anything like their other products, you'll be in for a treat.
