Anyway to turn off the screen in the iMac without putting the computer to sleep, or shutting it down, or going into the system prefs everytime? Maybe a hotkey?

In the System Preferences, you can set the display to go to sleep in the Energy Saver section. However, this wasn't enough for me, so I made a small, completely black image file (1 pixel for height and width, that's all) and threw it into my iPhoto library. Then, under Desktop & Screen Saver, I set that file as my screen saver and turned on a hot corner for ease of use.

You might find that to be somewhat helpful; although, your screen will still be on, just black.

Yeah, I kinda have the same problem. Kinda annoying.

You have to change the System Preferences -> Energy Saver settings.

However, sometimes I want the screen to go off and then i have to go into System Prefs and change it to 1minute. Too bad you can't just click screen OFF but that's not really possible on an iMac, at least I haven't found. 🙁
