View Full Version : Disconnects from internet after sleep

I've got an iMac, an original G5 dual proc, a new G5 dual core and an old single proc G4.
My original G5 has an intermitent problem. All my Macs are hooked up to a router and then to a cable modem. Every now and then, for no reason, the G5 disconnects from the internet after being put to sleep. Each time I wake it I have to reset the router and then all is okay until I put it to sleep again.
Then, also for no apparent reason, it stops doing that!
The original G5 is the only one that has this problem. Any ideas?
Thanks.

Are you running any file sharing apps on it? :)

Not sure what you mean. I do have the system prefs set to share printers and files with my other computers.

By file sharing apps, I mean LimeWire, Acquisition, bit torrent and other P2P apps. I guess the fact you don't know what they are answers my question.
Try resetting your PRAM (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238) to reconfigure some of the network ports. :)

In your energy saver control panel, do you have it set to put the computer to sleep after a certain time of being inactive? If so, this could be the root of your problem.

I'll give the PRAM thing a try soon.
As far as the computer going to sleep after a certain time, I do have that set for about 30 minutes. However, I never touch this setting so why would it only happen sometimes, then clear up?
Also, my other G5 has similar settings but so far this never happened.
Weird!

If the PRAM reset doesn't work, then maybe have a bit of a think about the differences between these two set ups. In particular, are the networking settings exactly the same? :)
Weird!
Agreed.

Well, once again the situation righted itself with no help from me.
I reset the PRAM anyway.
So until it happens again it will remain a mystery.
Thanks guys.

My Mac just started doing the same thing for no apparent reason about 3 days ago. When I start it up, it doesn't connect to the wifi.
