when should i buy it?

an intel ibook/macbook as soon as its released? i'm really leaning towards buy, but with talk of processor's getting cheaper (its so close to macbook release, i be it will reflect the processor price change), 64 bit processors or whatever everybody's talking about. what do you think? i really want this computer and my current computer is crap.
 
I've bought a lot of Macs and have yet to regret any of them (well, except, in a related note, an LCIII that I advised my parents to get forever ago). The best time to buy a Mac, in many ways, is soon after they're released, as that often (but not always) means you'll have it for some time before it's updated. For example, the 12" PB I bought a year ago has yet to be replaced or, really, upgraded (although that'll happen soon, a year is a pretty good run) and the Rev A PM G5 dual-2.0 is still very competitive after two and a half years.

Buy when you can no longer avoid pulling the trigger. Then stop looking at Apple.com for a while. 😉
 
Since you're running off a Clamshell you should buy one. The performance boost you would get would be huge. And when you get one I will gladly take you Clamshell off your hands. 😛
 
well i dont really use the clamshell very often, it doesnt have wireless and the spot i have to use for wired internet is very inconvenient. i use my moms old dell inspiron 5100, but its terrible, and cant stay on too long without overheating and shutting off. i would definitely be willing to sell you the clamshell, but it has a crack in one part of the case. it isnt very noticable, and it doesnt effect performance at all. also it doesnt read burned cds/dvds very well. you can hear it reving up to try to read it, but it doesnt just cant read them. it reads regular cd'sm dvds, and games fine. i am able to play age of empires II and the expansion pack on it without trouble. it probably wouldnt be a very good buy on your part, its pretty old, although in pretty good condition in my opinion. i'm running jaguar 10.2 on it.

yea, i'm pretty set on getting one. i just really hope it has isight, front row, and a backlit keyboard. i'll upgrade the ram and hard drive most likely. processor speed doesnt matter too much to me, i want a core duo, but not if i have to upgrade it to get one
 
i also dont have any of the restore disks, and the clamshell belonged to my stepmom before, and i'm not sure if theres any sensitive info on it. i wasnt able to delete everything from its olden days. i would have to ask her before i sold it, and make sure it doesnt have any of my passwords stored for email,etc.
 
anyways, this isnt a thread about whether to sell the clamshell or not, its about how long to wait to buy the intel ibook/macbook. i need your help!
 
I would definitely wait at least 1 revision. Since the form factor is changing, the manufacturing process is changing and will introduce at least some build quality issues.
 
thanks for your input, but i think if i have a problem with the original, i would take it in for a later revision. do revisions usually come along as fast as they have been for the mbp?
 
I would go ahead and buy as soon as it comes out, i was going to do it with the MBP, but i decided to wait, and now i regret it, kuz im stuck in between, if i buy now it makes no sence because in 2 months they oculd be updating, so buy as soon as it comes out.
 
Ahh. Rev. A syndrom is much too common with the latest apple products. Quality is beginning to be an issue. I say go Rev. B.

I beg to differ, at least in my experience. Rev A PowerMac (a few years ago): fine. Rev A Intellimac (this January): fine. Rev A Intellimini (last month): fine.

Not all rev A's have issues. Yes, there are problems, but it's not a guarantee.
 
I realized a month ago that my iMac G5 was a rev. A, and I'm the 2nd owner, there hasn't been a single problem with it.

BUT, I would worry with a Rev. A INTEL machine...
 
well, i have a feeling they will have worked out alot of the bugs because of the issues with the macbook pro. i would be very surprised if the intel ibook/macbook had a cpu whine or if it had airport problems. what are intelimacs and inteliminis?
