Question: Would you remove the Apple logo from your Mac if it saved you, say, $300? You KNOW that it's an apple product, and it has all of the Apple qualities - but you don't get to show anyone that pretty label, and you don't get to stare at it! Discuss.

heck yeah, I'd take it off for $300. I have a whole bunch of stickers I could put on where it should be.
Replace one apple with another. :p

Yes. I would totally do that for $300!

Ummm...none of my Apple products really have stickers on them. Are you sure that's not a Dell you're typing on? ;) :D

Hmm...that's actually a tough decision. It depends what computer it is...if it's a cheap $800 MacBook, yeah probably. If it's a $3000 MBP, then no.

I think that the OP is basically asking "does flaunting the fact that you have a Mac matter to you?".
Yes, I'd have the logo removed if I saved $300. After all, I can always put one of my Apple stickers (that came with my Mac) on it, just like my envious "I-Use-Windows-But-I-Want-A-Mac" friends. :D

I would definitely remove it for $300, but I would be very sad for days. :o :(

I'd remove mine as well, but my PowerMac sits in a cabinet so you can't even see the Apple logo. On the Cinema Display, you can see the Apple logo clearly, but I wouldn't mind removing it from that for a good $300!

I don't know how you'd remove it. This seems silly. :)

It is silly. It's like a lifeboat question, only without such detrimental consequences (for most of us ;)).

exactly! The question is; how much of the lofty price you paid for your mac actually went for the little apple logo?

I think that Apple should offer a $300 discount for including the logo. My desk is not a billboard.

the lofty price I paid is for the quality of the computer and software, not the logo.
If I wanted to pay $$$$ just for a logo, I'd get one of those hideously tacky Yves Saint Lauren or Louis Voitton bags (I killed the spelling didn't I? :p) with the logo printed on it 4 times per square inch. (barf)
edit:
that being said, I'm not going back on my first post. I'm really, really cheap. If I had the choice of it (and actually paid for my Mac) I'd remove it to save $300. That's 3 years of applecare!

As much as I love it, for $300 I wouldn't object. Heck if they paid me enough I'd put on an Intel Inside sticker.

Here's a much more important question: would you allow your foot to be amputated ... and a couple other bad things to happen ... to get a flying car? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBRHetKH4MQ&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww%2Escalzi%2Ecom%2Fwhatever%2F)
My answer: no (to the foot) and yes (to the apple logo), assuming I'd just have a generic smooth case in its place, rather than a gaping hole.

Interesting question. Heck yeah I'd go without the Apple label to save $300. I'm not much of a name-brand person. I pay for quality, not bragging rights. I personally don't care what anyone thinks of my computer, it's mine and it has specific jobs to do, none of which depend on someone saying "OMG you have a Mac U R SOOO cool!"

Those things are fugly! (No, that isn't mis-spelled, just a clever combo of 2 words.) It kills me what people pay for ugly crap just because a tacky name is plastered all over it.

If it ever had a sticker, I'll get rid of it for $0.
Stickers leads to glue on a palmrest

Yup. Katie pretty much summed up how I feel about the label. Besides, money is money it could most definitely be spent elsewhere.

How about this as an option...
I want my Mac (sleek and beautiful) and I want OS X.
If the logo was an optional extra that cost $300, then I wouldn't have a BTO to do so.
But if the other option is to save $300 and end up with a non-Mac laptop running XP, then I'm not interested.

Not everyone wants it for bragging rights.
I'm proud of the product, although I had no part in designing it... I only worked in the retail store for a few months. Presuming it didn't cost $300, wouldn't you want to show your "loyalty" or "approval"? The idea is that you become part of the lifestyle. Do I want people to know Macs are the best? Damn straight. Do I identify with the brand? Yes. Am I a corporate tool? No.
If you're a genuine advocate and supporter of a company's products, it doesn't mean you're a "billboard."
