MacBook Pro and external monitor

Just wondering... is it possible to use an external monitor while running Windows XP, with the lid of the MacBook Pro closed (along with an external mouse and keyboard)?

Seems like it should work the same as it does under OS X, but I don't have a MacBook Pro yet to test it...

When I boot mine into XP while it's hooked up to an external monitor / USB keyboard + mouse, it gets to the desktop and then turns the external monitor off. :confused:

I'm quite sure that there's a way to fix that behavior, but I just haven't spent the time on it yet...

I am using mine with no problem. Just enable the monitor under display settings, and change the resolution. Mine works great.

I'm having the same problem and can't figure it out. I'm using an iMac. The Windows boot logo comes up, on both monitors but the external doesn't show anything after that. The iMac recognizes that it has an external monitor hooked up but I still can't get it to work. It works fine in OS X.

Anybody have any ideas?

Have you tried the whole "advanced" section in the display properties menu? It'll have it's own "display" tab, and that will have a bunch of icons representing different monitors and you need to turn the "power" switch on for one of them.
Got my 30" dell working like a dream from my MBP -- even better than osx because you can cofigure it from there to turn off the laptop monitor completely (this requires a little sleep routine to achieve in osx). Once set up, it'll default to this scheme automatically, but originally it didn't come on properly.

I'm very computer savvy and have explored the Advanced tab extensively. Everything appears to be set right. Is there any other explaination for the monitor going off as soon as the boot logo is done?

You have gone into ATI display settings. Into the monitors/displays and made sure you've enabled the external monitor?

You've gone into display settings (where you set resolution) and clicked on the external monitor and then clicked/ticked extend screen to external display?

Hi Mac people,

I had the same problem , the settings were correct etc.. . The only thing
is that one needs to make sure the external monitor is turned off, before settings the properties.
In other words,

1- plug the external monitor on macbook (pro)
2- turn on the macbook - the external monitor needs to be "off"
3- once on windows, make sure settings are correct.
4- turn on external monitor.

These are the stages that worked for me.
