To answer your question, yes standby works fine.

no way of getting it to work on macbook pro? something about the lid... no equilivent of wake using keyboard stroke or something....

Not as of yet. Im sure someone will figure a way. Also Im sure Apple wil have it fiexed in the next version of bootcamp or the Final Version.
