View Full Version : How can I reformat my 2nd Gen iPod from Apple to Windows?

I'm sure this has been asked before....can't find any info, though.

mine is mac formatted. i'm going to sell it, but the buyer is a windows user. anyone know of a page that has instructions?

You need to format it on a PC. Doing it through the Mac will not change the file structure (HFS+ for Mac iPods, FAT32 for Win iPods) - Windows cannot natively read HFS+ file structures.
To restore the iPod to it's factory settings follow these instructions (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983).
This will delete all the music on the iPod but you were going to sell it empty anyway, right? :p

okay so as long as we set it back to original factory settings ON the windows computer, then hook it up reset like that..it should recognize it and work with windows itunes?

just want to make sure this guy can use it....are there any other steps than resetting it to factory settings?
