while it's not exactly officially out yet, Vicarious, the first single from the new Tool album, got leaked today.
edit: by leaked, i certainly don't mean I downloaded such a thing... <_< >_> i just heard it on my friend's computer. yeah.
i must say, it's pretty doggone good, although Maynard's voice seems to be going just a bit.
anyone else who's had the pleasure of hearing it, any comments?

its wonderful. they certainly grow and change a bit with every album. the bass is great. Danny's Drums are great.
i do think that Maynard's voice is going a little, but then again, knowing him, its could just be the way he wanted to sound on the song too.

yeah, i'm hoping that that's just what Maynard wanted himself to sound like on that song.

he sounds better in the later parts of the song, so its a possibility. his Puscifer and APC songs since they are more recent, haven't shown any decay of his voice, but who knows. its hard to believe that they have been a band for 14 years now, and that they are in their 40s too.

Hey now. 40 year olds can still rock, y'know.;)
Haven't heard the new cut, but I'm looking forward to the new album.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm listening to it on my friend's computer right now. Good stuff! It's amazing to think that I've been listening to Tool for 13 years... how time flies.

The first listen - didn't seem too amazing.
The second listen - it was good but the vocals seemed a little weak.
The third listen - It grabbed me a little
The Fourth listen - I love it!!!
I can't wait for the album or the gig!!!

After hearing this song this afternoon I already feel like the new album is going to be a lot tighter than lateralus.. I dig their last effort (pieces of it at least) but its not as cohesive an album as undertow and Ænima were, imo.
it's funny, i feel ::exactly:: the opposite way. i love undertow and Ænima, don't get me wrong, but i feel they're quite a bit less cohesive than lateralus is.
i still get the same feeling that you do though, i think this album's gonna be really tight. i'm pumped, i have it preordered + overnight, should be here may 2nd :)
after listening to this song some more.. i'm REALLY diggin' it.

Boring.
The hair on my big toe has progressed more than they have.
I am very very dissapointed.
It's a regurgitation of Lateralus, and a very weak one at that!
Rich.

actually, i find it to be nothing like the lateralus tracks, in subject or form.
it has much more likeness to Undertow & Opiate stuff than Lateralus or even Aenima for that matter.
it's a good track.

I saw tool at the Berkeley Community Theatre just after Lateralus came out (with King Crimson opening), and the show was amazing. A completely different experience than seeing them in an arena.

Young and old alike - we realize how computing should be, and won't settle for anything less than the best. That includes some kickin' tunes to shake the desk while we're computing :p
