This is now listed on Ebay Here (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=9720401395&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1)

PowerMac 5500/225 (All in one case)

225MHz PowerPC 603e
96 MB RAM (upgradable to 128MB)
2GB HD
Floppy
CD-ROM
OS 9.2.2 installed using OS Helper. (OS X 10.0.0 - 10.2.8 can be installed with XPostFacto, though built-in ethernet works only sporadically - I've tried it with 10.0.3)

Its in pretty good shape and looks great. The GUI is AquaX so that it looks like OS X, even though it is OS 9. :D

Pretty cool. How much did this machine sell for when it was new?

Not sure but my elementary school was packed with those things until they upgraded to the colourful iMacs :p

According to Everymac.com (www.everymac.com) it cost $1999 new in the US. Its a nice little computer. My very first "real" Mac right after I bought myself a Classic II at a garage sale for $20.

EDIT: Aw shucks, beaten to it.

oh wow that thing makes me miss elementary school...

Can you XPF OSX onto it?

EDIT: I can read! I swear!

Nice machine you have there I'd love to grab one for nostalgia purposes, if I had the spare cash that is.

Can you XPF OSX onto it?You don't need to unless you want beyond 10.2.8

You actually do need XPostFacto since this doesn't have a G3 processor. In fact, it can't go above 10.2.8.

Nope...only supports through OS 9. Here's (http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/Framework.cfm?page=Compatibility.html) a link on XPF compatibility with the 5500.

"Unsupported, but in progress. The main problem is that SCSI and Ethernet are not working, which makes installation difficult. Also, will not work with Mac OS X 10.3 or later, because of 603 CPU."

We had those at my school....System 7 was hell on them, I can't imagine how bad OSX would be :D

LOL, that OS X GUI is tricky :) :cool:No, I read that it was the AquaX GUI for OS9. It's just from external appearances the 5500 looks like the G3 AIO to me. :D

I know about the Zip Drive and different front plates too. I forget about the older AIO models.

Here I thought I actually made someone believe it. :)

Never judge an Operating System based on school computers. Yuck.

Mac OS 7.6.1 is incredibly stable on my small fleet of these.

I just wanted to say that im_to_hyper is a fantastic seller. I have one of these machines although it's only th 75mhz version. You can add a TV tuner and even RCA/S-Video inputs using the "Apple TV/Video System" which includes one or the other card types. Some boxes can even come with both models. Just make sure the card is made for the Mac 5500 series since there were a lot of different models made.

These Macs make great computers for the kids, you can use the Mac to play some games and then watch TV. This is a very good price for this machine, happy buying :D

Are you sure they were 5500/225's? My(and most) schools had 5400/180's. LOL I remember the kids said "If you click on that thing(what I know now as the startup bar), it'll go faster".

Yeah, OS X is pretty nasty. If you managed to get the correct memory and install it correctly, it runs quite nicely. This one was used only for MSN Messenger, which runs just fine under 9.2.2 and 96MB RAM even with the OS X GUI installed.
