well since there are so many mac folks
who are sensible about the 360 i figured
i would ask this to the group...
i leave the game i am playing in my xbox all
the time... currently that game is oblivion,
but that is of course besides the point...
when i turn on my xbox it of course tries to
load the game right off the bat... more often
than not i am actually trying to play geometry
wars, which requires me to quit out of the
oblivion load to get back to the dashboard and
set up my "space crack" game...
can i just hold a button or some other such
trick to get the xbox to just load up to the
dashboard when i turn it on???
thanks guys!!!

if you have the remote you can hit the media center button then just hit b to back to the dashboard. without the remote i believe you are out of luck.

Take the disk out of the machine?
well yeah... but the idea is that i try to actually touch the discs
as little as possible... and not unecassarily eject or even touch
the 360 unless absolutely necessary...
no remote do i have... i guess its just turn on xbox... and....
wait................................ to kill the game loading...
if you can clear the cache by holding A why cant they come
up with a way to boot right to the dashboard regardless of
whats actually in the machine... rhetorical question... sorry.

This is clearly something they missed from the Xbox modding scene when they thought of "skinnable dashboards" and "custom face plates" Yeah, there's no option like in Unleash X or XBMC that will stop the 360 from auto-launching games, dvd's, cd's, etc. The modded Dash's when using a modchip detect what media is in the console and will autolaunch if enabled to in the options, otherwise it will just sit there until you select it.
Lame, I know.

This has been a pretty widely-requested feature by 360 users and if you listen to Major Nelson's podcast, he mentioned it to one of the guys who works on the dashboard team who said "We're working on it" Give it time. My guess is that it will be a part of the eventual update that comes with new products/features announced at E3 next month. :D
In the meantime, you might want to take the disc out or get your hands on a cheapish media center remote to hit the green button and get back to where you gotta go.

well thats cool if they are actually working on it... you know... not
like Vista... i know its a minor annoyance, but it is annoying...
especially when geometry wars is the killer app... ;)

Yea, this and the ability to do Marketplace downloads in the background are *very* commonly requested features. I suspect that an OS upgrade on the 360 (via Live) could add this functionality easily.

I hope they enable you to remove games from your profile... is there a place on the XBox web site to submit suggestions? It's a chaotic web site to find stuff on.

To be honest, it's worth just posting and visiting the forums on XBOX.com.
Tons of XBOX staff read the threads on there and are aware of the issues. See if there's already an existing thread and add your $.02
Otherwise, you can always bug Major Nelson about it by e-mailing (Major@xbox.com) him. :p

or when you turn on the xbox hit the eject button then play gometry wars, or if it is going to be a marathon session then remove the game disc close the drive and continue to geometry wars... just a recomendation.
