iPod Nano is already flash.

So is the Shuffle, but I assume he means new/updated models...who knows about that. Size boost is possible, but when is anybody's guess.

So is the shuffle. There is not the technology yet to use flash for 30GB or higher storage. It simply does not exist yet.

Well, yes there is. It just hasn't been adopted by the iPods yet.

Because it doesn't exist at a price point that would be reasonable for a music player.

Yeah, Samsung recently announced a 32 GB flash module. No pricing details given by Samsung, but it looks to be $750-$1000 at launch time.

i know. i'm talking about all ipod models.

Long, long, long ways off.

As just mentioned, a 32GB flash module is starting at $750. Way too expensive for MP3 player use

I just found this describing upcoming 8 and 10GB nanos to fill a need for something exciting for the Christmas season.

8 and 10GB? Who would pay the extra $50 to go from 8 to 10GBs? More likely to be 2, 4 and 6GB for the next revision.

Why not 2, 6, and 10? That way there is enough of a jump in capacity to better justify the jump in price.

That's because most people tend to have about 4 - 8GBs of music.

Exactly...I have 7.68GB. If I am going to pay $200-300 for an Ipod, I want to have room for expansion, meaning 10GB would be nice.

Apple is lacking on the mid-sized memory capability. My 3rd Gen 15GB used to be huge, but now 10-20GB is a mid-capacity player. Apple has only small (nano, shuffle) and large (Ipod with video) capacity players. I would love to see them re-enter the mid-range again, and I am willing to pay for it.

I would too, but as I've learned Apple would only do that with the iPod, they probably wouldn't have a higher capacity nano. But then, they wouldn't lower iPod prices, because that would interfere with nano sales. So Apple could still have mid-range iPods, but they would still probably start at $299. That's just my theory.

With the flash player you can run or make excercise withouth the fear of killing your ipod.
If you run with the big ipods the chances of it freezeing are about 90%....they only have a 20 min. skip back protection...and that's not enough
