The Apple UK Store is down but us is up

Indeed it is. Wonder why?
Guess it can't be anything good if it's not already on the US store.

International stores tend to go down first before US - but this is a good sign for new products. :)
[EDIT] Australian and a number of other European stores are also down, so the US store will probably soon follow. Looks promising.

See, now Monday nights are a good time to launch products. No uni tomorrow morning so the late night is not a problem, tonight's TV is Boston Legal then Scrubs and Arrested Development, all on Channel Seven so I don't have to get up to change the channel. I've got the new Family Guy on the way so that should fill another 20 minutes if needs be.
I'm gonna go make some tea and make a night of it.
And if it's just some silly software update I'm gonna cry.

And Finland bites the dust.
I'm not bitter. Even if they do open the FI shop first and I order something first they'll still ship to the world and his dog first.
Sorry.. am bitter about Apple in Finland :( Been burned too many times with their "ordering logistics" and that annoys me as a Mac Fan.

Based on the spacing between the optical drive slot and the latch button, I think it's reasonably safe to say that's a photo of a 15'' MBP, and therefore the image is fake.
.. Not to say 17'' MBPs won't be announced today.

OK, it's now 10:07pm Mon 24/4/06. If the store is not back up by 11:07pm I'm going to start throwing lawyers.
Seriously Apple, a man needs his sleep and if this is going to be another 2am night waiting for something at least tell me.
See, MWSF kicks off at 4am my time every year and I don't care because I know that it starts then. Leaving the "we'll be back within the hour" sign up is just plain cruel.

EDIT1: UK Store says "back within the hour" - it's now 13:15 (BST) - anyone confirm when it first was noticed to be down?
EDIT2: The OP's time was 12:21, so it's coming up to almost an hour since original post - that's not to say store was not down before that!!

There's something odd about that image OziMac. Now, I'm not saying that you didn't see it, far from it.
I think Apple may have altered the image a bit. Look at the reflection of the optical drive. The slot in the reflection appears to be at the base of the front strip but on the actual machine the slot is near the top.
If you reflect the laptop there should be a gap between the real slot and the reflected slot. If you reflect the reflection the two slots would be close together.
It just looks weird.

Apple adds the reflections digitally afterwards, as evidence by the photo in the MacBook Pro gallery where the reflection doesnt include the IR sensor.

Fair call Chundles. The more I look at it, the more odd it looks - and I do agree about the aspect ratio looking a bit off. But that's what I saw, so I did what any intrepid Machead would do and snapped it and posted it. ;)
I found it on the Finnish (Suomi?) site just after it went down. I tried to refresh but it went back to the landing pad. Maybe they screwed with me somehow, but I can tell you that I'm not capable of producing an image like that myself.
Fingers crossed :)

Yeah I'm pissed about that too. Hopefully were only talking first or second week in May... I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Pricing is screwed up on new macbookpro.
The 17" is cheaper than the 15" when you add the BTO options to make same processor/hd capacity.
I suspect we'll see a price drop on the 15" models soon. Maybe when they introduced the macbook.

Chundles - the 17 incher looks beautiful, but I gave in to instant gratification a couple of weeks ago and got the 2.0 GHz 15 incher - and it's the best laptop I've ever owned. It'd be a real shame if the only reason you couldn't get one was because of the modem. :)

The price of a 15.4 inch with a 2.16 in the UK with a 5,400rpm hard drive is the same price as the 17 inch MBP and you are also getting some extra things with the 17 inch with the extra screen size, double layer dvd, hard drive size/speed, firewire capacity and the extra USB port.
A 17 inch is to big for me and I am still happy with my 15.4 inch MBP. Come Autumn though i think that i may contemplate getting a new MBP and selling my old one if one with the Merom chip comes out by then.

At the time the 15in was released there was no dual layer drive in the format the mbp uses. ;)
I imagine there now is so they are using it in the 17in whether or not the 15in gets a quiet update I don't know.
Can't say it bothers me there's little to no point in dl dvd's for me.
