How do i make MP4?
Is MP4 much better then MP3?
Maybe i shuld convert all my MP3´s to MP4?

Shn's are the way to go brother, also the Ogg Vorbis codec makes mp3 sound like an old 8track tape. Ogg Vorbis compresses to the same size but sounds so much better.

Now if the iPod had Ogg Vorbis playback, I would be a happy camper.

if i had itunes, OS X and cacophany back four years ago my whole album would be ogg. i have one ogg file. it is crap. but the audio quality is equal - IMO - to its WAV file that i also ripped for a comparison.

ogg's are great and much more customizeable. Also their are less computer induced noises in ogg's than in mp3. I am in the process of converting around 150 shows to the ogg format.

where is the ogg support Apple?

To top it all off, ogg is a FREE codec.

a well encoded ogg at the same bitrate as an mp3 has greater sound quality. i have listened to the flaming lips cd as an aac (mp4) stream from their website (i'm assuming at 128kbps) and it was much better than either ogg or mp3.

you can encode music with the ogg codec right now, just search versiontracker for the utilities. you can also play back ogg through quicktime with the ogg component (also available on vt), which means that you can listen to them in the finder preview or in itunes with no modification.

if you have quicktime pro, it is possible to encode songs from cd to acc (mp4) but it's kind of a roundabout process (there is a shareware tool that makes it easier). it is expected that in the next update to itunes, you will be able to rip music into aac format.

as for converting your mp3s to ogg or acc, there is no point, they will remain at the same quality, you cannot make the quality better by putting it into a different format. if you buy a painting in a $5 frame and put it into a $100 frame, it's still the same painting. if you want your music to be of higher quality, you will have to re-rip it from the cd to aac or ogg.

I'm a fan of Ogg Vorbis and mp4, Ogg is better since its open source, and doesn't apple love open source, then why isn't it supported?

Currently the MP3 format is the most compatible out of all the formats mentioned in this thread. If you want to take music with you then you can with any one MP3 player, including the iPod. At a decent 160kbs an hour of music will take less than 100MB as MP3s. MP4 sounds better and is more efficient but until Apple upgrades the firmware of the iPod to play the new format, there is no point in re-ripping your CDs yet.
