I put my iBook to sleep by pressing the power button and clicking sleep. Now, it is warm, it makes noise, just like a normal iBook. But the screen is not on!!! What can I do?:(
When I press space to turn the screen back on.... it makes the same noise it always does when it comes back "awake", but the screen stays blank.

Hold down the power button for a few seconds and it should switch off. Then turn it back on and it should start up normally.

OK, I will do that, but why did this happen? I mean, whats the cause and should it be sent in or should I tell Apple?

Macs have quirks.

Ok.... well I hope this isnt a bad sign... I mean Windows freezes all the time... and Im 5 months new into the Mac experience... so I freaked out at one little glitch. Windows has much more... its just that this was a hardware problem... or I believe so at least.
Anyways, I'm not touching the iBook until tomorrow or wednesday... so i still dont know if it will turn back on yet... I am 99% sure it will though... thx for the suggestion Nermal.

It's fine, don't worry about it. Such things happen.
Not even macs are perfect.

I think I know what you're talking about - happens to my iBook g4.
Basically, if you turn the screen brightness down until the screens is black, and then it goes to sleep, when you want to revive it, it'll be black until you put in the password and won't respond to the screen dim/brighten keys (F1, F2).

Same thing happened to me recently. I wigged out for a sec, restarted, and all was well.

mine has done that a few times waking up from sleep. I just kept hitting keys and it eventually came around:rolleyes:
I think it is just a small glitch, repair permissions to make sure all is in order, double check you power settings make sure they're all set properly.
oh and if you don't already have it get onyx (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20070), it is a great utility :)

Well the same thing happened again, I clicked "sleep", the display turned off, the parts still moved and made noise, the LED light did not come on, and the display would not come back on so I shut down. What can I do to maybe stop this?

Well, a description of the problem is here (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60869), but this solution is to update the software.. really old software. How would I fix the current problem?

Maybe try resetting your PMU (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449). :)

This happened to me on my iBook before. I just closed the display and reopened it and all was well.

I tried that when it happened, but nothing happened. My LED light doesnt even come on, so it didnt sleep in general. I just had a blank screen and unresponsive iBook....

PMU reset didn't work? Maybe look through the Apple Feedback Page (http://www.apple.com/feedback/). :)

OK, well the PMU was reset.. and I am on my iBook again... so I don't know if it will sleep next time... I will let you know if the problem persists. But not realizing that the PMU was reset, I probably pressed the combo of keys about 5 times, that shouldn't cause a problem, right? I guess it's just resetting the PMU multiple times... so I shouldnt have to worry I guess. I also I guess I just answered my question. :D

No no no. Resetting the PMU multiple times between restarts can be a problem. Sounds like you're not getting smoke coming off the logic board so it's all good this time, but don't do it more than once next time. You must boot up between PMU resets in future. :)
Hopefully the PMU reset worked.
