Agreed. That is the only way il take it. The 'Powers That Be' want you to go Intel. Especially if its a 17, cos then you'd have ordered before the refresh.

Go Intel, and fry your lap (but have years of support through x86 software)

Ah....but I do believe it. If it had been anybody else, I wouldn't have. I don't know what it is, but I think the Apple Gods have decreed that you shall endure this until you can endure no more (so let it be written, so let it be done).

Return Label coming via e-mail. Hopefully I'll get one on Thursday.

I was willing to let the scratch on the back slide, but then I went to open the lid and the frame was bent outward.

Sorry to hear about your troubles... I had probs to with refurbs. Took Apple 2 times to get it right but when they did it was immaculate. Hang in there, Apple will make it right. You might even get freebies for the trouble... Always a bonus.

Good luck

PowerMac is fine now - it's had a couple of spurts here and there, but nothing major.

What a bummer - it was so purty! :D

The Mac mini I convinced my family to get had weird scratches all over the top. They weren't even like scratches though, more like permanent little smudges. We just kept it though. It took convincing to get them to switch to Mac and I didn't want them to buy one and then have to send it right back because it had a problem with it!

I should have, but I wanted to get the return logged in at FedEx so they would release the hold on the replacement and get it out, which they did - yay.

The bottom had a very deep and obvious scratch on it - I mean plainly obvious. I was willing to let that go - I don't care about the bottom.

Then I remembered all the posts about warped cases and I went around all the seems and right by the latch, there was a piece of the frame bulging outward.

Everyone was really nice at Apple, but geebus. :(

I'm so sorry - but not surprised - to hear that. Apparently, it's not only Rob but also the delivery people and Apple itself who are conspiring against you.

Next time, before you buy, let me know. I'll run up to NH and get one for you and inspect it before I leave the store.

And I'll even keep it for a month, just to be sure it's OK.

yeah, I had lots of trouble with my ipod form bb and it was refurb! I had probs with it, I found it hard to use with my other(legal) music program, though i found how 2 import.
Then my HD would spin, it would reboot and repeat. applecare told me to let it drain the battery, recharge. didn't work. so i let it dry, return to best buy, wait for inspection by geek squad saying they recomend we return so I did.
They couldn't resell it. So i switched to a cheaper nonrefurb Creative Brick:D

I detailed this in my letter to apple, Just waiting to see whats in the mail:)

I was thinking the same thing. My patience level is quite thin, and I've been lucky with the 4 Mac products I've owned...my only problems were owner-induced. Talk about loyalty...iGary deserves the customer of the year award, at least.:D

And guess what?

The PowerMac Kernel Panicked on wake up from sleep twice yesterday, once during reboot and once while I was using it.

Another fun day on the phone with Apple. Except I am not getting off the phone untill they order me a new Quad with the same configs as this machine when I ordered it and send it to the Annapolis Store for me to swap.

Period. I've been patient enough for too long and now this is starting to cost me money. You can only tell a client so many times that your machine is broken.

So, I spoke with a "Senior Representative" and he had me do log and error dump so he can send those to engineering...hopefully I hear something today.

I also sent him my long history of defunct junk I bought this year, so hopefully by the end of the day or early tomorrow, I have a new machine on the way. This is just crazy at this point.

They all but elluded to it. Honestly a new machine is kind of a pain in the ass because I have to sell the RAM in my current computer along with the video card, because they won't work in the newer machines.

I'll take a new, unopened Dual 2.7 - that's much easier for me. I doubt they have any, so we'll see what they do.

Apple's been really nice so far, and all the techs have been real courteous. I just want this resolved today so I can actually get down to work and concentrate without worrying about my machine.

What a long strange trip it's been with this thing...

I want details! I've been considering doing the same - purchasing a refurb 15" PB instead of shelling out $2,300 for a MBP.

It's a great laptop - does my panorama renders nice and quick - the lit keyboard surprised me the first low-light time I used it.

I got my memory from Data Memory Systems for the first time - and all 2 gigs works great so far. (Thanks to CanadaRAM for the referral.)

They still have 15: refurbs with the 128 VRAM, and 80GB HDD...

Damn man, sorry to hear about all the trouble you've been having with your Power Mac, then to receive a scratched and dented refurb PB on top of that. Wow. At least you got the new PB in and it's fine. Definitely glad to hear that.

Your Power Mac is definitely a lemon and they should replace it for you. Hopefully you'll be able to get a new Dual 2.7, so that you'll be able to actually work without worrying about kernel panics and other problems.

Ya know, I've used Macs for well over a year and out of all the Macs I've had in that time, (eMac, Power Mac G4, iBook G3, PowerBook G3, PowerBook G4 Titanium) I never once had a single kernel panic or any significant problem. The PowerBook had a problem where it would just go to sleep when you moved it around, but I knew about that problem before I got it.

Good luck with the new PowerBook, man!
