I was just wondering whether anybody has gotten their MBP back with any of the main issues FIXED (screen inverter buzz, faulty right speaker, dropping airport)? I hear a lot of people are waiting for theirs to be returned, but from no one who got it back with anything actually repaired.
So I will wait to send mine in until I hear that it makes sense.

Can't be 10.4.5, you must mean 10.4.6. The laptops came with 10.4.5.
What about the screen inverter buzz?

Not that I have heard. The screen inverter buzz and the right speaker are likely hardware problems. Hence my opening this forum with the question whether anybody has gotten their MBP back from repair and whether anything was fixed.

The OP is talking about the AirPort problem many MBP owners have witnessed, in which the AirPort fails to automatically turn back on when waking up from sleep.

Its' different, some people have unfortunately acquired monday-macs.:p It depends on the quality of the assembly of your system, but the firmware update and 10.4.6 should'a fixed most problems.;)

Mine is fine now, it took 2 repairs to get it sorted (MBP 1.83) but i now have no issues at all. In total its had a new logic board, new top case and new speakers.
Went in for LCD Buzz and Speaker issue. (LCD Buzz wasn't fixed on first repair.. so i told them to take it back again and fix it)
Awesome machine now, love it.

I just got my MBP yesterday. Sure enough it has the whine, but oh well, I can live with it.
About the firmware update though.....does this automatically happen through the normal updates, or do I have to do something special?

I sent mine in Friday the 14th f0r the whine and I still haven't received it yet! 12 days and the part is still "on order."
I want to KILL Apple  I swear if it doesn't come back fixed I will demand a refund.

Dude you gotta call apple. It took mine exactly 8 days to get fixed. Sent it in last wed. and got it back today. I literally called them everyday saying I needed it back ASAP, and the rep told me she put a note to "expedite" the process. It came home today but I'm at work and I'm going to go pick it up now to see if they fixed the problem. There better be no scratches on it!!!
P.S. Also complain that they didn't meet their promised one week turnaround. I read somewhere earlier that apple gave some1 a free stick of 512mb ram regarding the same issue.

Ok I got mine back and it STILL has the whine issue. I think I'm going to just deal with and give it a month and see if apple releases a new firmware. If not I'll call them and give them hell. Im just happy I got it back because those were the longest 8 days in a looooong time.

Can you tell us more details? Which parts got replaced? Which issues got fixed? By `whine issue', do you mean the processor whine that goes away with Photobooth and Magicnoisekiller, or the (much louder) sound that depends on the brighness setting of the screen (and is allegedly fixed by a replaced inverter)? Did they fix the faulty right speaker (noticeable especially during iChat conversations)? Once you've used the wifi for a bit, could you also let us know whether the conection is interrupted at random times?
Thanks in advance for the info.

They told me that they switched out the inverter. Its the whine that when u open photobooth it goes away. Magicnoise killer doesnt work anymore when i upgraded to 10.4.6. No brightness issues, and I got no faulty speakers. No wi I'm the phone with them right now giving them hell, they got me on hold so i can talk to a specialist. Im insisting that i want to switch out and get a new one from an apple retail store, not mailing it out. I'll keep u updating.
EDIT: Ok i got off the phone and they told me I can just go to the retail store I bought it at, and get a replacement. I insisted that I couldnt be without the computer again so I coulndt send it back out. The specialist also said that new mbp's are shipping with logic boards that have a new revision. He said that they DID NOT give me a revised logic board. I wanted to scream but he was a nice guy. Well thats it. I might be going to the apple store tonight to get the replacement. Hopefully the new ones wont have the whine.

The million dollar statement.
Now if that could only be positively confirmed!

I'd be happy about the switched out inverter because the screen buzz (surprised yo haven't noticed) is far worse than the whining.
Unlikely that your replacement will not have the whine. Sorry.

Firmware update reduces the process whine noise but does not eliminate it.
The only way to get a whineless MBP is to get one with a new version of the logic board as the whine is a hardware problem. Not sure if a new version is out yet.

What pisses me off the most is when I called Apple yesterday...
I asked someone if I bought a refurbished MacBook Pro, and it had the same problems the other MacBook Pros have been having, then could I still send it back and get it fixed or replaced...
The guy on the phone said: "problems?"
I said: "yes, the flickering screen at low brightness levels, the wireless problems, and annoying the buzzing sound"
The guy on the phone said "hmm.. i haven't heard of *any* of those problems."
Repeat after me... b*lls**t! why would they lie to me like that? i mean, these issues/complaints are not limited to just the macrumors forums, i have heard about these problems everywhere. there is no way that they haven't been told of these problems at apple, or that they haven't heard complaints on the phone about this before now.

I wonder whether the logicboard is the problem, given that Windows XP apparently works without the whine on the MBP, while having lower power consumption. This somebody said in some other thread.
