Capturing 1080i HDV and or DVCproHD?

I have a 17 inch 1.67ghz with 2 gb ram I'm pretty sure It can handle editing,
It's Just with 1080i I tend to have to play back in med quaity so I'm not sure that I would be able to print back to tape either.

I have a 1.5Ghz G4 powerbook, and it can't come even close to playing 1080 content. Maybe if you like 1 frame / second. Are you sure you want to bother?

MiniDV transfers pre-encoded material, you could download it onto a G3, but you'll never be able to play it.

My editing is fine it plays back full speed with 1080i it's just I'm concerned at capturing because all My tests have been done by converting footage from trailers off the net as oposed to capturing from the camera.
And since in Final Cut it doesn't let me go any higher than medium for 1080i footage I'm slightly concerned as to weather or not I could capture it.

720p DVCPRO HD is slick as can be.

If you can capture the DV format you can capture the HDV format because, by design, HDV has a similar data rate to DV. I think you should be able to capture DVCProHD at 720p/24 but I don't know for sure.

The laptop will be adequate for editing, just don't expect very much in the way of real time effects and your render time is going to suck (especially w/HDV).

Seems your are talking about H.264.

1080i takes only 46-53% of my 2 GHz G5 processor to playback at full 25 fps - thats only around 1000 MHz, so you'll be fine with 1.67 Ghz G4
